2407 1:1 Pixel Mapping Issue

I have wanted a 2407 since the day they came out, but I always have been one to do alot of research before buying a product and had come across the many issues the early revisions had and held off on my purchase.

Then the 24" Benq news hit me and also the 24" Acer both sounded promising but I have found major flaws with each and looks like I am back to where I started, the Dell.

the A03 revision seems to have most of the problems fixed but there is one major thing I need to know first.

The scaling options for the monitor are important as this will be a multimedia monitor.

So I know it has 1:1 pixel mapping so the image wont be streched and distorted and its well known there is a bug that prevents you from selecting the 1:1 function when at a higher resolution (1600x1200) has this been fixed yet?

Also unless my memory is playing tricks on me I swear sombody found a work around for it, a trip to google didnt find my answer so hopfully sombody on the forums has heard of this and can confirm it works.

To bypass the 1:1 problem (it becomes greyed out and non selectable at 1600x1200 or higher) drop your resolution down, select a lower resolution to enable the option, turn it on, then go back and raise your resolution back up to 1600x1200 and the scaling mode will stick.

I am 90% sure I read that in the past when I was doing heavy research on this monitor, however not sure if that will be a valid cure for an outside source like a Xbox 360 or a DVD player as they dont have an option to change the resolution and also not sure if the scaling mode is input specific (I.E. if I enable 1:1 mapping for the screen via my computer in the dvi input, it may not be in 1:1 mode for a dvd player hooked thru the component)

Any feedback is appreciated

Also I am assuming by 1:1 this monitor does both a perfect pixel match (I.E. a source that displayed 800x600 would be in the center of the screen in its original 800x600 size surrounded by black on all sides) and also a aspect strech (I.E. the 800x600  image would strech to fit the screen with black bars on the sides but not be taken out of porpotion and get distorted)

Well I have tried all of that on my 244t & everything works - even 1:1 1600x1200. Take some of your stuff into a shop & try it. If you live in aust. then buy it.
cheers

This trick does not work on my A03. Someone else has also confirmed this.

So it seems there is no way to display for example a 1080p signal (1920x1080) in it´s true 16x9 aspect ratio. The image will be stretched to fit the vertical 1200 pixel resolution.

It´s a dealbraker for me because it would mean that you couldn´t connect a standalone Blu-Ray player or HD-DVD player to the monitor and watch 1080p in it´s native resolution.
Like here:

Aparently (as you have already written) some other monitors also don´t offer the 1:1 aspect function. The new BenQ also doesn´t seem to have it altough the ADVERTISE it as the first 1080p-compatible monitor. Maybe it works via HDMI, but that wouldn´t be of any use for Xbox 360-owners.

It is frustrating to search the web for information about this issue because most reviewers don´t seem to be aware of the lack of this feature or maybe they don´t care.

Rowlander and all,
Dell partially supports 1:1 pixel mapping, to what extent, don't know, someone else may have the answer.
BenQ, not at all, from TFT Central review.
Hard forum thread, DangerIsGo, is supposed to get an HDMI cable and test XBOX360 for the 1080P capability today or tomorrow. Check this thread for a lot of info and 241W scaling and all.

"Then I can output a 1080p signal ( from my PC to HDMI) and well finally have this resolved because according to that Chinese site,...."

Update, XBOX360, 1080P thru HDMI showed up as 1200 full screen, So much for advertising claims!

the online manual states that there are 3 wide modes:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2407WFP/en/setup.htm#Using%20the%20OSD

have you checked the differend modes yet?

i don't own a 2407, but plan to buy one. the correct aspect ratio in the 1080p or 1080i mode would be a very important buying criterion.

I just found this thread. It seems, 1080p in 1:1 is out of the question. :-(

1920x1200 Xbox 360 update is my last hope now for this monitor.

I´m reading very mixed reports about it.
Some say, it (should) work fine, others say, it doesn´t work.
Like here:

I wonder if calling Dell´s tech support would help in any way. :-(
I really WANT to buy this monitor, but if it won´t display 1080p in it´s true aspect ratio, I CAN´T!
(1080p via VGA is what I´m most interested in, for HD-DVD on the Xbox 360.)

If the Xbox 360 software-update allows it to output 1920x1200, I´d be fine, but I´m not sure that will happen.
Come on, anybody, give us a clear and final answer on the issue and seperately for every one of the three inputs! (Preferably tested by yourself!)

But I have a nagging feeling the the negative reports are right, and the 2407 can not display 1920x1080 in it´s true aspect ratio. :-(
