2407 Calibration Question

Just received a 2407 (Rev 04) and am having a problem using a Spyder 2 to calibrate.  When I get to the point where you are asked to change R,G,B settings (by using the front panel adjustment buttons) so that the three bars are the same height  I can NOT get the bars to move.

Thanks in advance for any information.

ChrisM,

The procedure you suggest is exactly what I do, but the three color bars (R,G,B) do not move.  I can see the color of the screen change as I push the buttons but the color bars do not change.  As you probably know, the instructions for using the Spyder 2 calibration device say to change the values until the color bars are all the same height.

Another question.  Should a commercial video (Flags of Our Fathers, in this case) appear as clear and sharp as when played on a 55-inch HDTV? I'm playing the DVD using the build-in DVD drive in a Dell 8250, and the image is not sharp.  Also, should it be necessary to turn the audio control up to the maximum to get sufficinet volume to hear the soundtrack?  In my case the volume is not nearly as loud as anything else played on this setup!  I'm using Media Player.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks DEHL,

Yes, I do as you suggest.  Should have undated this thread as I did on a related one.

After a number of failed attempts, I managed to complete the calibration with one nagging issue.  Although it appears that, in general, the monitor is calibrated correctly -- prints match monitor, etc. -- for some strange reason the pointer and hour glass icons are PINK, true...they are pink.

In getting to this point I even managed to get the RGB sliders to work, and also managed to get the three RGB bars to line up perfectly, all within the acceptable limits.  This was all done according to the ColorVision manual.  And then after all this was done, ColorVision, in response to my question, advised that they do not recommend adjusting the RGB settings!!!!!!!!!!!  In any event, everything seems to be working OK...now if I could just get rid of the pink icons.  Clearly, this saga is not over.

Also, the other concerns I mentioned regarding the monitor have all been resolved -- seems that it was primarily a matter of my education.

Thanks to all, actually the few, who responded:)

Are you clicking the Update button in the Spyder2 software after you make changes through the front panel of your display? The colored bars you see in Spyder2 won't automatically update as you make changes using the buttons on your monitor. You have to make a change at the display, close the monitor color panel (so that it isn't appearing *behind* the Spyder2 colorimeter on your screen) and then click the Update button to see your change. It's a bit laborious, but it works.

Is your mouse pointer normally white with a black outline and possibly a drop-shadow, or is it normally black with a white outline? In other places you'd expect to see white (and grey), like the Dell forum page are you seeing pink too? If your mouse pointer is pink, but you're seeing white behind the blue "DELL" logo at the top left of the page, then it doesn't seem like a monitor issue but rather an operating system and/or driver issue.

Until this most recent monitor calibration the pointer was white with a black line outline, and that is how it looked everywhere.  Never an issue.  But now it is a light pink with a black line outline.  As I mentioned, other than that calibration seems fine...prints look like the monitor, etc.  I'm going to recalibrate and see what happens.  I've never had this happen before...over 10 years using these marvelous Dell machines:)
