2407 Support Problems
Hello all, I recently bought a Dell 2407 revision A04 from Overclockers.co.uk. When it arrived, I was very happy. However, after booting it up, I found 1 stuck, adjacent pixels shining bright green into my face from the centre of the screen. Knowing that where was a standard on the number of dead pixels needed to warrent a replacement, I called the Dell Support line as provided from the UK website, hoping that they might be a bit more sympathetic what with the pixels be adjacent and in the centre of the screen. When I got though to a person, they asked me for the system code number thing, and I said it was a monitor. He immediatly put me though to someone else, who was very helpful, but said they needed 5 dead/stuck pixels to replace the monitor. Downheartened, I got on with learning to cope with a £500 monitor with a big green dot in the middle. fast forward 2 weeks. I get a yummy new graphics card (8800GTX) and switch to DVI input. To my horror after putting a DVD on to test, the screen starts flickering blue, and i thought my card was damaged. tested another DVI monitor.... it didnt happen. tested the 2407 with a different DVI cable.. thought it fixed it, then it starts flickering again. switch back to VGA (DVI-VGA connector on the card), movies work fine. no graphical glitches. boohoo, damaged monitor. woohoo, kill 2 faults with 1 stone. Phone Dell. No service number, its a monitor "ok, please tell me the serial number, beginning with CN" so i did "that is not a system serial number" "no, its a monitor, bought from a 3rd party, it wasnt with a system" "nothing we can do sir" this is the abridged version. see a difference here? where is the call divert? i called the same number both times, lady on the phone was trying her best, but she couldnt help. I asked to be diverted to the proper number or department, but she was convinced that there was no other person/people who deal with this. She said contact the 3rd party seller who send me directly to dell in the first place. I am running the monitor at 1920x1600, 60Hz. Anyone got any ideas? I wanted to get this monitor changed before my next LAN party, but it doesnt look like i will. Apoligies for the long post, I've just reached the end of my patience, and I though a backstory was better than "DELL UK SUPPORT IS RUBBISH KTHX"

Understand, I am in the U.S. and these are U.S. policies.
Dell Stuck/Dead Pixel Policy -
* 6 or more defective pixels anywhere on the monitor warrants a replacement monitor
* 2 adjacent defective pixels anywhere on the monitor warrants a replacement monitor
* 1 defective pixel directly in the center of the monitor warrants a replacement monitor
Dead Pixel = a pixel whose 3 sub-pixels are permanently off, producing a permanently black pixel.
Stuck Pixel = Stuck pixels have been reported to disappear, and there are several popular methods purported to fix them, such as gently rubbing the screen (in an attempt to reseat the pixel), cycling the color value of the stuck pixel rapidly (in other words, flashing bright colors on the screen,) or simply tolerating the stuck pixel until it disappears (which can take anywhere from a day to years.) Stuck pixels are not guaranteed to be correctable, and can remain faulty for the life of the monitor.
(1) Stuck Pixel Fix
* Turn off your monitor
* Get a damp cloth and ppply pressure to the area where the stuck pixel is
* While applying pressure, turn on the monitor
* Remove pressure and the stuck pixel could be repaired
* Repeat if unsuccessful
(2) Stuck Pixel Fix
Try using Dead Pixel Buddy which will cycle the main RGB colors on every pixel at a very rapid rate in the hope of fixing the stuck pixel.
=====
Monitor purchased from a reseller (Ebay, CostCo, etc.) with no Order Number or PC Service Tag Number
- 3 year monitor warranty based off of the 20 digit PPID number. What is your PPID number?

Interesting about the pixel situation. you say 2 adjacent "defective" pixel warrents replacement. does a stuck pixel count as defective? or only dead? it will be interesting to know if there is a difference in law over here about pixels.
Also, I am happy to report I managed to get into contact with the right people eventually, and they have agreed to exchange the monitor, which i think is top rate.
AND i got the direct number back to them, so no more going round the houses.
