2407wfp: Reviewers vs Users

I just think the reviewers never tested those things.

I mean early people who purchased 2007 and 2407 were all full of praise till one guy ran a banding test, then everyone goes and runs it....then someone tries to run DVI/1080/blah, then everyone else goes and tries it....and so on.

And to base your buy decision on something that may or may not happen not a good idea....

reviewers are incompetent, not allot else to say really. You can't really miss colour banding and if you do you certainly should stop reviewing them for the sake of your readers.. :smileyvery-happy:

Depends on whether the issues the 2407 has bother you or not.

Nobody, including DELL, denies those issues exist.  I read the CNET review and they probably spent 10 minutes going over the thing then spent a few hours doing to write-up.  They only tested a few things on it.  The things they tested for seemed favorable but by no means is it exhaustive.

reading varoius forums, you get an idea of which review sites are considered superficial and which are considered authoritative - users reviewing the reviewers :)

Have you seen reports on the upcoming samsung 245T with lcd backlights instead of the norm.. These should be out before an A03. Even the present 244T samsung looks good (if you could get hold of one as they are still out at sea or in customs here in aust.).

The new benq 24" (not released yet) looks good as well as long as its price is reasonable when we get here (not like the pricing on its 23").

I was going to rush on line & buy 2407wfp after reading reviewers opinion esp. pc auth. who put me on to my present 19" viewsonic vx924. After spending a lot of time on line I've come to realise that I would be taking a great risk. I even contacted online sales at dell saying that if they could guarantee that I would get panel ltm240ml2 with the latest rev. I would buy one. Online sales took ages to reply & I don't think that they knew what a panel no. or revision is!!

Anyway, I am going to sit on the fence for a little while to see. I think that with vista coming the the HD i/o at the highest res. will be all the more of a neccessity. At present the dell can't & I am personally concerned that this monitor runs far better on analog imputs instaead of digital & won't run HD protected content over mid res.. max..

I am not happy paying out money on the off chance I might be happy with it. Also, if I see a problem with anything, I am 'not happy Jan".

cheers

aren't the ex (LED) versions of the Samsung expected to be $5000 :smileysurprised:

the regular 244t is cool and i imagine 245t will be (although knows with 2405 vs 2407), some say 245t might have enhancements others just say a new stand and nothing much

I truely believe Dell ships reviewers different versions of their product then the ones available to consumers. The reviews for the 2407fpw are completely inconsistant with what consumers are finding.

for example:

http://www.trustedreviews.com says "Xbox 360 images also looked great when hooking up via component."

Anyone who owns a 360 and a 2407 can tell you it looks ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE when hooked up via component at any resolution. In fact, all HD material looks bad because the component input is defective. Yet this independent review site says it looks great?

The latest issue of Maximum PC magazine, gives the 2407 steller reviews as well. They even go as far as to say that the backlighting of the monitor is perfectly even! Are you joking me? Every 2407 owner on this board has said their backlight is strikingly dim on the right side compared to the left.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I honestly think Dell is special building high quality versions for reviewers to test, then shafting the consumers with a lesser quality build. Somebody needs to shut this criminal organization down. Dell is probably sending their assasins out to whack me right now because im getting too close to the truth...

Skibum5000

I submitted a post to answer you yesterday but it was censored because I used a word that is more than acceptable on other forums I am on.

$5000 for a 24" - you would have to be more serious about the extra quality it may have.

Ben q 23" is very expensive here so I am not sure what price the new one will be.

I also was of the opinion that the 245T was the one with the back light lcd s.

Going by your online name you must be a skier. That is possibly my main interest but unfortunately I won't be going this year down here in australia. Maybe I might ski japan or canada next year.

Personally, I am not interested in the 1680*1050 monitors. I currently own a Dell 2005WFP.
The 1920*1200 monitors options are limited to
1) Samsung 244T (1700$CAN)
2) Philips 230WP7SN (1000 $CAN)
3) HP L2335 (1200$CAN)
4) HP LP2465 (1250 $CAN)
5) Dell 2405WFP (eBay?)
6) Eizo FlexScan S2410W
7) ViewSonic VP231wb
8) Samsung 245T (unreleased 1700$CAN???)
9) BenQ FP241W (unreleaded and 950 $CAN)
10) Dell 2707WFP (unreleased)

I would vote for the Philips 23". It has an IPS screen which have better viewing angles, and no lags.

Where can you get the Philips for $1000 CDN?

The Philips 230WP7NS is a very good screen but it lacks HDCP (for what it's worth) and there is no component input but it has four-port USB 2.0 hub.
The following link provides a very interesting discussion about this monitor:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4098

Now, the price sources:
$1,000:
http://www.prosys.ca/carleton/pc.htm
$1,054:
http://www.frontierpc.com/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=20211199B
http://search.ncix.com/displayproductdetail.php?sku=11199B22&vpn=230WP7NS/27&manufacture=PHILIPS%20ELECTRONICS
$1,092:
http://www.insight.ca/apps/productpresentation/index.php?product_id=PHLP7NS27

I am big fan of NCIX having ordered many items with them.
I have never done business with the other stores above.
NCIX has an semi-automated price match feature (so they could match the least expensive offer) but shipping is somewhat expensive.

Let me know if you get this screen.

The best 1920*1200 screen seems to be the Sony SDM-P234. But the price range is $1,300-$1,500 which is a bit on the expensive side...

The Sony and the Philips likely use the same actual panel. I don't care at all about HDCP. I worry about that after there is content that I can only get that way. At which point I would only really care about this for a BIG screen.

I am unlikely to get one now though. It was a an offhand thought after I got burned with LCD so far. I am back with CRT. Here is my history.

Dell 2405: ~$900 Pva screen(terrible viewing angles), overbrite (even at zero) killed my eyes. Sold it for a loss.
Dell 2007fp: ~$400 PVA(terrible viewing angles), banding, blur. Returned for refund.
Philips 202p4: Refurb CRT. Yay!

Now I have decided to pick up a small cheap LCD to go with my CRT. I just ordered a Dell 1707 for that role. I will probably keep this one as my expectations are now lowered and this is just a cheap (~$200) screen for some dual screen use.
