2407WFP Tearing and Ghosting Issues
Hi all,
I'm a Canadian resident and received my Dell 2407WFP (Rev A03) on the 2nd of January. I must say, at first I was very disappointed with the display as it exhibited very noticeable banding in desktop, video, and 3D gaming modes as well as "ghosting" effects. On the bright side, everything else was fine. I had absolutely no dead pixels, the brigtness of the display was even with no bleeding, and of course, no shadowing/fuzziness around text as with previous revisions.
I noticed that changing the colour depth of images I worked on in Photoshop to 16, 24 or even 32 bits would eliminate the banding but would also limit my selection of what file format I could save my images in as well as what sort of advanced image editing option I could use within Photoshop on images greater than 8-bit mode.
A few days into using my display, I noticed that banding issues seen in images produced in 8-bit colour mode (default colour depth for Photoshop) no longer existed. All banding problems I had in games, video, and desktop use were gone! I'm still not sure how this issue was solved, I never changed any settings and kept the same connection layout as when I first installed/hooked-up the monitor.
Anyway, once that problem went away, I was a lot more content with my display. The "ghosting" effect, however, still persisted when scrolling through web pages or moving windows/objects around. This is particularly noticeable when I move the mouse cursor or objects over white backgrounds. The trail appears as a light green shadow.
While browsing the forums here last night, I came across the "2407FPW reference checklist for casual users" posted by 'all the facts' seen here:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=66009
He mentioned on the 26th step of his checklist to "check pixel persistence so that there is no stutter or hitch (freeze or release) or trail ghosting in the 5 white boxes moving across the screen at various speeds, a must pass for gaming, if hitch, return or exchange LCD."
All the PassMark Monitor Tests displayed fine except for the LCD Pixel Persistance Test. Not only do the 400, 600, and 800 pixel/sec sqares exhibit ghosting, but pretty much all 5 sqares exhibit a sort of jittering effect along their left and right sides. This appears as a sort of jagged or tearing effect as they move across the screen and becomes more pronounced as the speed of the squares increases. As well, while visiting the Home Theatre forums, I noticed a kind of flashing + tearing effect (ontop of the vetrical green ghosting effect clearly visible from the menu title bars) from the diagonal-line background as I moved the scroll bar up and down rapidly at that page:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hmtheatre.
I should add that the tearing effect is not noticeable along straight horizontal lines; Just vertical and (I think) diagonal ones. The ghosting is there in all cases and no matter what direction I move objects in.
My question is whether or not this issue is normal for all 2407FPW displays or whether it is, in fact, a problem with my display and in turn, needs to be exchanged or returned. Aside from the tearing and ghosting problem, my monitor is quite impressive and exhibits no other problems which makes me worry that I might get a replacement monitor void of these issues but exhibiting something else that my current monitor has overcome (ie. dead pixels, permanent banding, alien parasites, underwear stealing gnomes, whatever).
I'd greatly appreciate any feedback on this matter, many thanks.

I'm somewhat comforted by the fact that I am not the only one seeing this problem, but a bit disturbed by it as well. Is this normal? Would returning the screen for a replacement solve anything, or just rob me of time?
I've been otherwise very impressed with the monitor, and I will be disappointed if this turns out to be an unresolvable issue.
