Do you have a part number anywhere?

Check the Sharpness setting, if the setting is in multiples of 10 then it's the revised firmware - if it's in multiples of 25 then it's not.

The 'b' has nothing to do with the new revision.

Congratulations! You're the first to report receiving a new revision - everyone will be all over you to test it. If you're up for that let them know here - 2408WFP rev A01 is out, but what are the changes?

I suggest you open a new theard "2408WFP-New Firmwar-Review" and discuss there on the properties of it.

important question : did you have the 2408 for a long time ?(means-you are aware to all or some of the main problems, which gives you the "eye" to see the changes and improvments)

tmorris51,

I am curious about one thing in particular, not necessarily related to the new firmware but is the brightness of the screen uniform over the entire area? A lot of people (including me) are having problems with a brighter left side... Any comments regarding this issue on your new monitor version?

Sorry to say this but left side screen on the refurbished monitor is still brighter.  I now don't have a problem with unit comming on.  Another thing is now is as the longer it is on the more saturation it seems to get.  I am now call Dell and the original is still sitting on the floor waiting for DHL to pick up.  Tired of messing with it and going for a refund and buying a Samsung.  I am a photographer and process a lot of my photo's myself.

Where did you find refurbished 2408's? I can't find them anywhere...

It was sent to me to replace my 3 week old 2408 (New) that had two problems.  Read my original post.

Would love to hear any feedback about how much the sharpening issue has been improved.

Unfortunately, it's one of those things where, unless you've compared it with another monitor (pretty much any monitor) you may not be aware of the problem. But if you've noticed it (blobby small dark text, or halos around text on a background), is there a sharpness setting where the problem vanishes?

If the 2408 still can't map pixels 1:1 without sharpening or softening the image, I'm going to fight for a refund on mine. Failing that, it's going straight on eBay :smileyindifferent:

Just what I thought :(

The left hand brightness/washout issue persists. The two samsung 245Ts I've seen, did not have this issue. Neither does the older 244T.

Seems like Dell has major panel implementation issues and refuse to acknowledge them. Shameful.

per this review at xbitlabs labs, the samsung 245T had:

all black: "The average brigthness uniformity is 2.6% on black; the maximum is 11.1%. That’s a good result. There are no bright spots on the screen. The 245T is better in this respect than its precursor 244T."

all white: "Alas, the irregularity is higher on white: 3.8% on average and 17.2% at the maximum. The distribution of the irregularity is similar to the 244T: the right part of the screen is darker than the left."

per this review likely from hardforum, the dell 2408WFP had:

all white: "I checked brightness distribution on the Dell 2408 at 35 measurement points. The maximum deviation from the center value is about 18%. No visible problem though."

i quickly ran their brightness numbers through excel, applied the std deviation function, and came out to 9.6 (candelas). On an average brightness of 168, this version of 'brightness uniformity' would be 5.7%. not sure what xbitlabs used to calculate their numbers, so maybe apples and oranges here. r egardless, the maximum deviations from both reviews was very close.

this graphic is a good illustration of what I have experienced to date.

brightness uniformity is not an issue for me. colors are far better / consistent than my 2005FPW, and blacks are outstanding. i have not noticed color shifting in the corners except with eyes closer than about 18 inches, which I do not normally do.
