2408WFP Audio Problems with Xbox 360

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.

My setup is as follows: 2408WFP monitor with Dell AS501 Sound Bar connected (speaker power connected to corresponding outlet on monitor, speaker audio connector (green) connected to green audio out input on monitor), Xbox 360 elite with included HDMI cable plugged into input on console and other end plugged into HDMI input on monitor.

I get video just fine, but no audio to speak of. What can I do, if anything? Thanks in advance.

Btw, I CAN get audio from my Xbox using these sound bars, but only if I connect it to my monitor via component cables and then ONLY via headphones.

And I already tried unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in to see if allowing the monitor to reset/re-synchronize itself, etc helped with the sound with HDMI (as was suggested in another topic with a very similar problem), and it didn't work

I am not totally sure what is the source of this problem.  This monitor specifically doesn't seem to want to take the HDMI audio and send it through it's own audio out.  I work in technical support and spoke with someone facing this exact issue.  They tried to plug it into his XPS 1530 and didn't seem to get audio out of it either.  I suspect that we didn't have it configured correctly.  I get audio out of my HDMI on my XPS 1330 and when I feed it into the HDMI on my S2409W monitor, the audio comes out just fine after I change the audio out settings (changing the default output device to the HDMI and not the "Speakers" in Vista).  So my best guess is that the Xbox isn't configured to output to the HDMI and there is a setting that will need to change in the console settings.

The other way to see if the HDMI is recieving audio is to try another HDMI device on the monitor and see if you get sound from it (like a DVD player).  Other than that, I'm not sure what will need to happen.

Let me know what you find

Hi,

I have the exact same problem. Hooked up my xbox to my dell monitor via HDMI and no sound. It's so frustrating. Try playing GoW2 and GTA4 with no sound. I put itunes on to have my own soundtrack. It's really depressing. (The xbox has NXE installed.)

I understand that the monitor obviously do not have speakers, but if I connect my 2.1 speaker system to the monitor's audio out (green) STILL NO SOUND. Shouldn't the HDMI sound just carry the audio stream over to the speakers?

I feel like the audio out port on the monitor ONLY will work with Dell's soundbar... then I am allowed to connect my 2.1 speaker to the soundbar's headphone port to get audio out. Is that the case? Seems really unfair if dell forces people to buy their soundbar to let people have HDMI audio out.

Does anyone know how to do this? I want to use the monitor's audio out port.

I know one other way of getting audio is by buying the Xbox Audio Adapter which has the optical, RCA audio out which connects to the AV port on the xbox, and i connect my speakers to the RCA audio out using ANOTHER jack to RCA adapter (bc my speakers don't have RCA ports).

Is there any way to get audio by using the audio out from the monitor WITHOUT SPENDING MORE MONEY to get audio?!?!?!?! help!!!!!!!!
