3007wfp notdetected. Help please!

I've been searching all over, and I've found threads about similar problems but no solution. Here is the problem:

When turned on, the 3007 flashes through the red, green, blue screens as I'm told it should. When connected via the DVI cable the power led switches from blue to amber and the screen turns (and stays) black. All the connections are correct (USB, DVI, and power) and I have followed everything in the manual and tech support. I am using an XFX 7800GT w/ the correct dual-link port (although I have tried both just trying to get some sort of a response). I know both ports on the card work, as I have a VGA monitor w/ dvi adpaterIve used on both, and also a HD projector connected via dvi. Plus, it would appear that even if the dual-link wasn't working I should still be able to detect the monitor and run at the lower 1280 resolution.

ANy thoughts? This is the A02 version. They are shipping me a new one, but if this is a software related problem I'd like to figure it out. I have upgraded to the latest nVidia drivers, etc. I did run across a post mentioning the 'firmware' on the xfx 7800 cards may need upgraded. I checked the xfx site, could not find any further info about this. I hope someone here is willing/able to help. This is my first Dell product, apart from the computer we bought as a gift for my mother-in-law. I have been very happy w/ the tech/customer support. I just want to do everything on my end to be certain its not a problem here. Thanks!

Forgot to add - I have ran out and purchased a DVI cable to eliminate it as a suspect. Still nothing! :(

Whoops, I answered a thread once about a v/card not supporting The 30" resolution. This was a card from the same coy. & when we read the fine print it said that it was not a dual dvi output card. This should not be allowed imo.. Anyway, look up your model on their site & read carefully;)

The monitor not being detected on startup should not happen as it is a plug & play monitor. I would say that the software is not at fault. Maybe the v/card?

cheers

If I'm not mistaken I thought the red, blue, green, screens sounds like someone at the factory left burn in on. If burn in is enabled you will never see anything but that. But since it goes to black it may just be defective.
I don't know how a 3007 is suppose to look when it powers on.

Let's see what the new 3007 does first.

Some info on a XFX PVT70GUD2B GeForce 7800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 VIVO Video Card - Retail. Max Resolution 2560x1600
Dual-Link DVI Supported: Yes

It's just that these video card companies have so many models in the same range you have to know the specific model number, like you said Kevin. I just ordered a video card to hold me over till the new build and prices drop on those 8800's, probably 6 to 9 months.

my card choice $120.00 This an AGP card
XFX PVT42KUDE3 GeForce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

Max Resolution 2560x1600
Dual DVI Support

Able to drive dual flat-panel displays up to 1900x1200 resolution and featured by the nView multi-display technology.

Now do see anywhere or can find anywhere if it's a dual link DVI, I'm guessing it is because of the Max resolution, Max Resolution 2560x1600 or am I dead wrong?

Here is the product link page, you need cookies and java or you can't see it.

ye ive not heard about anything of a 8600 :D i am only guessing that the 8800 is not the midrange card and a 8600 midrange will be released a while after the 8800 so nvidia can rack up teh cash.

I dont think any new cards will have AGP support :D

Having said all that the 8800gtx does not blow me away with raw gaming speed, but it has SOO much more image quality and its got HEAPS of grunt for running heaps of eye-candy like AA, AF, high resolutions and shaders etc... :) So this means that the new midrange card might be somwhat lacking, we shall see, its like the best time ever to upgrade very soon :D

Maybe my plan is to go a 8600gt sli, so much choise is good yeehaw :D but i need a good display b4 i upgrade anything, my beloved new NEC is delayed till january now lololloooll i cant win :D

Yes, that is very unusual, it's the first I've heard of any type of problem with a Dell :).
That DX9 card is going in a 3200+ amd hydrogen cooled rocket machine. It will be demoted to number 2 of four when I build the new one.

8600gt, it's not agp is it? :) Haven't even heard of that model yet?
Want an 8800GTX in triple SLI on a 680I mobo, well maybe one 8800gtx.

Yes, my video card is SUPPOSED to have a dual-link dvi port (as well as a normal single link port). Im wondering if this may not be working? Becuase all the ports seem to work w/ my CRT, but there is no interaction between the monitor and computer when I use a strictly dual-link dvi cable. One of the other trouble-shooting threads mentioned a monitor description program which I downloaded and tried. Seems NOWHERE on my computer does it see that I have another monitor plugged in. It does, however, see the USB ports on the side of the monintor from what it appears.

Dell is sending me a replacement. But if  this ends up being a graphic card problem w/ XFX then I don't want to have to wait for the new monitor to arrive and be back here with the same issue. Thanks again everyone! I can't beleive what a problem this is, and I thought I did my homework well!

Okay, finally got some improvement! My brother was nice enough to pull his eVGA 7800 GT and bring it over. it works perfectly, so it HAS TO BE the dual-link on my XFX isn't working (or isnt capable). I guess my next step is to bring this up w/ xfx, as I ordered it knowing it was supposed to have a dual-link DVI connector. Thanks for reading, hopefully if anyone else has this issue this helps.

I'd also like to say, I have had NOTHING but great customer service from Dell. Every step has been professional, and they have done everything to help me resolve this. They actually sent a replacement 30" already which I will have to return (as I use this for business, its important to get up and running). Thanks, Dell. :)
