3007WFP Resolution issues

I work in the IT department for my company, and I've got *TWO* users with strange resolution issues...

One user cannot select the 2560x1600 mode at all. It simply gives a plain black screen for fifteen seconds, then resorts back to the original resolution.

Another can OCCASIONALLY select the 2560x1600, but oftentimes when he restarts the computer, it starts up in 640x480, and he cannot adjust it at all. Usually after 2 or 3 restarts, it gives him the option to select the 2560x1600.

We've installed the monitor cd, and reinstalled all video card drivers. Anyone seen anything like this, or have any idea how to fix it?

Thanks...

I have had a 3007 WFP for one month.  I've had the same issue as you have described.  I cannot change to the native resolution of 2560x1600.  No matter what I changed, the resolution reverted back to 1280x800.  I'm not an IT professional, but have tried numerous issues attempting to correct this problem.

Today (Tues. 01-15-07), I finally decided to call Dell's tech support.  I spoke with two customer service reps.  The first could not help after numerous attempts, and then referred me to someone who was more highly advance in support.  She could not correct my resolution problem either.  She was not sure, but thought I may not have incompatible graphics cards (dual Nvidia 6800 SLI Ultra Extreme - 256MB each).  She suggested I contact the manufacturer of my computer, Alienware.  It's possible that your graphics cards are not compatible either.  That issue has not been proven to be my problem as I have not contacted Alienware.

Any chance of getting this list updated to 2009 available display adapters?  I've got a 512MB Radeon 3450 in an Optiplex 760 that will currently only let me do 1280x800 without scrolling the desktop.  Catalyst drivers from ATI didn't make any difference than the Dell-provided drivers.  Any suggestions?

racooper,

I have not seen any updated list. Make sure that cable is a DVI-D Dual link. If it is the single link, you cannot do 2560x1600.

Chris:

Any idea what will work with this?  I have three Optiplex 760s and three 3007s, and the end user wants them all at 2560x1600.

What resolution can they go up to? What video cards?

I bought the machine with the ATI Radeon™ HD 3400 card that the Dell configurator said was required to provide 2560x1600 resolution, but the most I can get is 1280 x 800, which the machine says is the "native resolution" of the monitor.

Did you visually verify that the cables were DVI-D?

Yes, the cables are Dual-Link DVI-D cables.

What ultimately worked for us, and worked perfectly, was XFX GeForce 9500 GT 500M 1gb  video cards.  The cards we found were low-profile cards, but had a standard-size mounting plate and had a real DVI-D output (as well as VGA and S-Video).  The Dell cards have a non-DVI output and you need to use the silly little splitter to connect to any monitor; for a one-monitor setup, there is a loose end hanging behind the computer.

We removed the standard plate and the VGA jack; then took the small-form-factor plate off the stock video card and swapped them.  Download the WinXP drivers, and it works like a champ.

Dell sells this card, but could not confirm shipping dates so I bought from Egghead.  I don't know if the Dell card is configured the same as mine, or has the right plate and no VGA jack, or what - no idea if the Dell-supplied unit will work.

This thread is almost a year old, but there doesn't seem to have been a resolution (other than buy a different card) and it sounds very close to a problem I am having. Dell Optiplex 760 with a Dell ATI Radeon 3470 256Mb  low profile graphics card. In my case using a Dell 3008WFP, and Belkin DVI Dual-Link cable. The card specs indicate DVI-D should support up to 2560x1600, but cant get more than 1920x1200. (Using Windows 7, ATI Radeon 3400 series driver dated 19/04/2011)

Is there reason why this combination shouldnt work?

another year has passed since the previous thread comment by digbyt42., similar problem with my laptop.  The machine is a Lenovo W520 with an NVIDIA Quadro 1000M.  This card has a pair of ports, and I am using a DVI-D dual link cable.

My 3007WFP monitor is still capped at 1280x800 as per the NVidia Control Panel.  I am unable to define a custom resolution higher than this, as it returns with a "This monitor does not support this resolution" error.  I have tried reducing the color depth and modifying the frequency slightly to no avail.

The NVIDIA driver is 8.17.12.7658, built on 4 Mar 2012.

The solution for me was to replace the DVI-D cable with a HP DisplayPort cable. I have no idea why the DVI-D cable (which looked far more expensive than the DisplayPort cable) didn't work, but with the new cable I was able to get 2560x1600 on both Debian Linux and Windows 7.

P.S. With the displayport cable I didn't even need the NVIDIA card. The full 2560x1600  resolution worked using just the basic display controller on the motherboard.
