5W540 Flat Panel 17' Display-Blank

Question

Dimension 4600 and monitor are plugged into a surge protector.  I went out of town for a weekend and had everything turned off and when I returned my monitor has crashed.  When I turned it on, it smelled like burned electrical smell coming out of the back of the monitor.  It blinks so slightly, but really just remains blank.  I've tried a self test and still I get nothing.  Is there anything else I can try to get an accurate diagnosis or is there no hope. What type of monitor do you recomment for my system?  I want another flat panel 17 inches or larger, but I want to simply plug and play.  Any suggestions

Orange Crush, The surge protector should have some kind of warranty for products connected to it. Before buying another monitor, check with them.
