A03 exchanges for A04's. Post spacing issue.

HI all, When the A03 for A02 exchanges went down, we had a thread to keep track of what versions shipped from where around the world., that's as good as it got here. For A04’s now: When you want an exchange, you give your purchase order number or service tag number and that should and will track your personal specific exchange on the date you called and requested an exchange for the 1:1 mapping issue. Don't argue with the phone rep, they won't get it, just have them note exchange for the 1:1 pixel mapping issues discussed in this thread in this forum. Get the exchange started, see what you get:) Since a lot will be out of the 21-day exchange some are going to get refurb's, so exchange until you get the A04 that is satisfactory to you. If you get an A04 with other defects or issues return again at Dell's expense (ask for a prepaid return label shipping to be included in the replacement box for the defective one) for sending you a defective refurbished monitor and save the possible multiple return shipping costs. Within 21-days U.S. be sure to exchange for new only or send it back and don’t pay restocking or return shipping as you can state any legitimate defect, banding more than 7 dead pixels or two adjacent, no 1:1 mapping, back light bleed or uneven and on and on. Those are some of the problems that show up randomly in LCD’s no matter what brand or model. You all might want to start an A04’s shipping from where around the world thread. I waited until the A03’s were shipping from TN, USA for two weeks steadily and exchanged A02’s for new A03’s (with no banding, that was the big issue then). Instead of building two 2407 warehouses to sort versions, as ChrisM eluded to :) That was funny Chris, you are doing a good job here :) Dell could add version numbers to an optic scan code label, update there system to accommodate the codes on the boxes that have the different version numbers. They have to sort 2407’s coming in to Dell and they could sort them shipping out but I see they don’t want to spend the time doing that. :) Sooner or later you will get what you want :) Good Day to all:) ChrisM , Why no spacing in some posts but spacing in others I know you asked the Dell experts before, I just never saw anything from you.

Post spacing? You mean blank lines between paragraphs?

If you use the text based message editor there is a check box to "Automatically convert carriage returns to HTML line breaks". This inserts the blank lines. To get a blank line in the graphical editor you need to press 'Enter' twice.

all the facts,

FYI,
Exchange refused = 1 to 5 defective pixels spread out
Exchange given = 6 or more defective pixels anywhere, 2 adjacent defective pixels, 1 defective pixel directly in the center

How do you define " the center " ?

Here was my experience:

Purchased a 2407 Rev 02 in July 2006. Made in Mexico. Worked great, but had the serious banding issues when using DVI and the 1:1 mapping issue.

When I read about the Rev 04, and how my issues were maybe resolved, I decided to exchange mine. Got a refurbished unit within 12 hours of my call Tech support. This one was made in Mexico, with an original Rev 04 serial sticker. Shipped from Memphis.

This monitor was flaky right off the bat. It did one of 2 things. It either worked, but would not go into standby mode when I turned off my computer, or would start in standby mode and would not wake up, even if turned on again. Not reliable at all.

Called Tech Support again...after much talking in circles, I got them to send another one. Got it within 24 hours of the call. Shipped from Memphis again. This one is a refurbished one made in China, with the "Rev 04" sticker put over the original serial number.

This one initially had issues too. First, there were horizontal lines of garbage on the screen when displaying a moving image. I started cussing, but discovered that the DVI cable they included was cracked (BAD QA!!!). Tried using my original cable, and the problem went away (whew). Next, found one dead pixel near the upper right corner. Used Undead Pixel 2.2 (found in the FAQs here), for an hour then tapped on the screen gently with a pencil eraser, dead pixel fixed! Also, the screen was dirty, with paper towel debris stuck in the corners of the screen.

Anyway, at this time, all issues have been resolved to my satisfaction. The horizontal banding is gone, but I noticed that Rev. 04 introduced some very slight vertical banding, only noticable in gradient tests, and just barely. 1:1 mapping works as advertised. The monitor turns on and goes into standby mode when it should.

My comments....I was not impressed with Tech support. I talked to people in India who did not have any advanced knowledge of the monitor. Since I don't have a Dell computer (home-built), they always defaulted to, "it's your computer, not our monitor, causing the problems." What a bunch of bull! Once I insisted on a replacement, things happened quickly and easily. I got 2 replacement monitors, and my old one shipped back within 3 days of my initial call. I was very disappointed at the quality of the refirbs. Obviously they aren't being tested as well as a new component. Cracked DVI cable, packaged as new, that is just awful. So I got what I wanted, but it was somewhat painful.

Hey gman757 how did you get yours exchanged? I have an A03 from December 2006. I called Dell and told them about the component quality input issue but the lady said it wasn't a defect. What number did you call? All I want is a complete working monitor even if it's refurbished.

Well I had a A02 which has banding issues over DVI which is considered a defect...but Tech support didn't even understand me anyway. So I just told them I saw lines on the screen when using the DVI input, which is what banding looks like. They said it probably was my computer system, of course not true. I had to go back and forth a couple times before they basically said they would exchange it, but it probably wouldn't fix the problem (which it totally did).

I've heard that component stinks on the 2407, I've never tried component so I don't know if A04 fixes that or not. First, I would ask others if component looks good on the A04, so you don't waste your time. If you do want an exchange, my suggestion would be to tell Tech support that the picture is distorted or has artifacts, or something along those lines. Don't lie about the problem, put it in simple terms. Remember, they have a very basic understanding of the system, if you just tell them you don't like the image quality, that isn't enough for a new one. It has to be broken for them to fix it.

The number I called is 1-800-624-9896. Have the monitor serial # handy, or your Express Service code if you got it with a Dell computer.

Sadly, the pixel policy has changed. Under 6 defective pixels --> no return.
