Another Warning about 2408WFP!

Warning! Do not install the 2408WFP driver/profile that is currently available through Windows Update (or anywhere else). It freezes my machine.

This has been one frustrating purchase. All the text sharpness coloration issues. The over-reddness issue. And now to blow away all those issues, Dell has dropped a driver/profile on us that freezes my machine. And, I can't connect with Dell online support because the monitors don't have a stinkin service tag.

I'm seriously dissapointed with this entire purchase enough to not consider Dell's products anymore. I have bought at least 10 Dell computers and recommend them to many others. Bottom line I want a replacement, but not a refurb. I want a new A01 (if that fixes these problems).

Latest issue:

There is a file in the latest windows update for the 2408WFP (2408WFP.icm). I figured this would be safe to install and might fix some of the issues with this monitor. Only it's not safe, doesn't fix any issues and was agonizingly frustrating to troubleshoot. It took the better part of a day and half to identify (over a week of system freezes) to identify the issue since there were no traces of errors. In retrospect, it's obvious this just freezes the display but it becomes pretty difficult to operate the computer without a display working.

I might have a config that is a bit advanced for Dell, but what's a $600 monitor good for?

New non-Dell Home Build (4/08) that has run viturally flawlessly until I added the driver/profile.

Q9450, 9600 GT 1MB (nVidia on 174.74 Bios 62.94.d.0.0), 4GB DDR3, ASUS Maximus Extreme X38 (mainboard) plus a few other items running Vista64 Ultimate. I run dual monitor with the 2408 (1900x1200) as primary and a Samsung 213T (1600x1200) as secondary.

I am super-frustrated at the time it has taken to find this issue and the random crashes that ruined some work.

I share your frustration. Ordered the 2408 last week. Wanted it, needed it. Set it up, right away notice bright screen at left and pink left corner. But I set it up, run it, try different apps. Next day I look forward to using it more, give it a chance to settle in. Calibrated it with Spyder2. Then things got problematic. The pink left corner became very obvious. The almost 50% brighter left corner was annoying me. I know no monitor is perfect. But this is promoted as one of Dell's top of the line monitors. So I called tech support, many calls, getting transferred back and forth. Unplugged monitor, did whole new set up. Hooked up my laptop to the monitor. Same problem, very bright left corner and pink left corner. So I request a replacement, go thru that whole process. Then I do some 2408WFP pink corner Google searches, and whole bunch of hits pop up with people having the same problems. But, I hope for the best with the replacement to come. Told it will arrive next business day. Pack up defective monitor. And wait, and wait and wait - three days. No replacement monitor. Go thru all the support call process. Today I find out the replacement monitor not being sent until they have the serial number!!! Nobody at support asked for the serial number. So now I have to unpack the repacked monitor to get serial number. Not easy to do right now because of a back injury. So I'm so fed up & frustrated, I just cancelled the replacement order and asked for a refund. Very, very disapointed in Dell. They should not be promoting the 2408WFP as they do what with the known, common problems this monitor has. And again, I really wanted this monitor. Guess now I'll have to save up some more for a Lacie or Eizo monitor.
