Bad Pixel on 1901FP Display

I have one bad pixel on my 1901FP display.  I have a 128MB GeForce FX 5200 graphics card.  The bad pixel is about 1/2 inch down and 4 inches from the right edges of the display.  The bad pixel is NOT there if there are no open windows on the desktop.  However, the bad pixel appears if I open a window, and some part of the window is beneath the bad pixel.

Does anyone know what is going on here?

I would say try to live with it. I think dell says if there is more than 4 or 5 around the monitor then they will replace it under warranty. If its small leave it. If others appear down the road i would say to replace monitor. If you send that one in they might send out a remanufactured one. i have the 1800fp and love it. I should of went with the 1900fp.

Dead pixels are actually pretty common for any LCD display. It's very hard to manufacture a perfect LCD panel and the makers will let one or two go by.

Four out of five LCD products I've bought has at least one bad pixel. I don't let it bother me any more. If you get it replaced, you might actually end up with a worse LCD panel.

The pixel is NOT bad when the desktop is empty... only icons displayed, no programs running.  Why is the pixel bad when a window is beneth it, or on top of it?

If the bad pixel is a "stuck on" pixel of one color (either Red, Green or Blue subpixel), then it won't show against certain backgrounds.

Press the Launch Calibrator button on this page

http://www.monitorsdirect.com/toolkit/index.shtml

And run the test pattern for "Dead Pixels" on the right side and see if the bad pixel shows up there

Thanks for the link to the monitor test.  The test results indicate the monitor is perfect.

On the dark blue desktop, the "bad" pixel shows up as a light blue dot... ONLY when there is an open window beneth (or on top of) the "bad" pixel.  I don't know enough about video cards, but I suspect there is a problem there.

Thanks again,
