Big problem with the E228wfp

Hi, i`m sorry to open a new thread but i dont know any better. i used the dell e228wfp monitor and was really suprised of the image. but when i wanted to watch a dvd (original bought), i had an black box over the video window. fullscreen = total black. so i guessed that this had somethin to do with the hdcp chip and the driver 4 it. i did everything, i installed new os (3 times, have backup hd), changed the dvd-rom, tried to run the tft with the plugandplay - driver from win but still didnt wanna work. i will return the dell tft. what should be the use of an monitor , which didnt wanna play the movies. in vga-mode they run. now i have my old tft and everything is fine. so i hope anyone, special the tech-support, has an answer to this problem. (my graphic card: gefroce 7800gt, no hdcp-chip) sincerly loki22

Saw your problem. I'm not a pro on this, but the problem isn't your Dell monitor, since it is HDCP compliant. Its your graphics card, which you indicate is not HDCP compliant. As I understand it, Vista will not play copy protected CDs or DVDs on hardware that is not HDCP complient. Its not that it couldn't - its just that Microsoft chooses not to let anybody do it.

yeah ok, vista... im still using xp (pro). and what microsoft does, isnt really helpfull for the user (as you see). i dont wanna investigate in a new graphiccard. whats when the problem is still there? and of course, i wanna run the monitor on other systems ( also with graphiccards with no hdcp). should i abondn to watch dvds? no thanks. i want a monior, that runs with no problems. as i said, i will return the monitor. the tft is really great except from my problem. but am i really the only person with the problem?

loki22,
1. ordinary DVDs (not HD) do not use HDCP.
2. if your monitor is otherwise working OK, then it is not the problem
3. you need DVD player software (and codecs) to view DVDs - what are you using? This is most likely the source of your problem.

trust me, i tried everything. as i said, new os ( with plug and play monitor, and also reinstalled the os and used the driver), another dvd-rom, differend hds ( for the os), different dvd-players, many codec-packs. it HAS to do something with the monitor-driver or something that is connected with it. my old tft runs perfectly.
