Blinking Power light...

Hello everyone. I have a problem with my dell monitor. I woke up this morning and attempted to turn on my monitor. When I pressed the power button the screen did not come on. The power light just keeps blinking Green. I took it off of my computer and put it on another computer in the house and it still doesn't work. Pressing the power button does nothing now because as soon as I plug the monitor into the wall the power button just starts blinking. Is my monitor dead. I believe it is the 173FP but I am not totally sure. Thanks for any help...

Boldgamer,

* Turn off both your computer and the monitor
* Unplug the video cable (either the VGA or DVI) from the back of the computer. They should never be connected at the same time to one video card
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating dialog box should appear on-screen against a black background. If this does not appear, the monitor is defective

If it is defective, please provide me with the following information in a private message, not on the board -
Name:
Shipping address:
Phone:
PC Service tag number:
Order number:
Customer number:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number (back of the monitor):
Reason:

I have the same problem with my Dell Monitor,  I leave my comuter on in the "sleep" postion,  I got up this morning and when I used to the mouse to "wake up" the desktop   I could hear the computer operating but my flat panel display's power light just sat there blinking green.  When in sleep mode it is amber,

Is this monitor fried? i tried unplugging it, holding the power button down for 5 secs +, plugging it into my laptop.  I get nothing.

I tried tech support and they told me since it came with my desktop in 2004 that they can longer provide free tech support and for a fee that can troubleshoot it for me.  What a joke.

I am off to best buy soon to buy a new monitor I guess.

mickster2007,

* Turn off the monitor
* Unplug the monitor video cable (either the VGA or DVI) from the back of the computer. They should never be connected at the same time to the same video card
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background)
* Does the dialog box float around the screen without any visual problems? If yes, the monitor is working. Look to the video card driver or the video card itself as the culprit

All,

Get them replaced.

Monitor purchased before 12/12/2005 = 3 year warranty
Monitor purchased on/after 12/12/2005 = 3, 4, or 5 year warranty (whatever you bought at the point of sale)

Monitor purchased with a PC before 12/12/2005 = 3 year warranty or the longer PC warranty
Monitor purchased with a PC on/after 12/12/2005 = length of PC warranty (90 days, 1 year, 2 year, etc)

Note - a monitor purchased by itself has its own order number. A monitor purchased with a PC uses the PC order number and service tag number.

Experiencing the same problem, started just today. I came home, used the computer for no longer than ten minutes, and the monitor seemed to have died. The power light blinks green, and it will not turn off. I have tried both unplugging it from the computer and from the power outlet. When disconnected from the computer but connected to the power, the light continues to blink and pressing the power button will not solve the issue: the monitor will only turn off when completely unplugged. If you need to know, it's a 173FP.

So, is it dead?

I think I've got the same problem.  I have a Dimension 4700 with a 15 in flat panel display part no. D5421.  I turned the monitor off and when I press the power button to turn it on the light on the button cycles through off-amber-green-off-amber-green.

There is a display box of some sort on the screen, but the brightness is so low I can't make out what it says, only that it is there.

I have tried all the combinations I can think of of unplugging the monitor from the computer and from the power and leaving it that way for up to 10 minutes and nothing changes.

The computer was purchased in January 2005, so it looks like the computer itself is out of warranty but the monitor is still under warranty.  If I have to return the monitor how do I get that process started?

ChrisM

My monitor has the blinking green light and does not show the little diagnostic square when unconnected with power.

Monitor was purchase with PC August 04 but support tells me the monitor went out of warranty with the system after the first year.

Should the monitor have three year warranty regardless of system warranty?
