Ok, new wackiness!!!

First, I can't find an Express Service Tag on this monitor, which is apparently required to enter any form of technical support chat.

When I tried to call tech support, I get the big long speech recognition thing that ended up trying to get me help with a desktop system. And, it told me I had to wait forever.

Now, I've got a new problem. Occasionally, when I switch windows, the monitor just...goes black for a second. Ok, nevermind. I don't even need to switch windows. It did it to me just now. It's like it just switched modes on me or something. It seems to be getting worse the longer I have the monitor on.

So...
1. Has anyone else seen these issues? Especially the "just goes black" stuff that's starting.
2. Is there a standard place for the express service tag that I'm missing?

Not what I wanted out of a new display... :(

Sigmund68k,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Here are some things to try and resolve this issue with the monitor.

  • Push Auto adjust button
  • Adjust Phase and Clock controls via OSD
  • Eliminate video extension cables
  • Perform monitor reset
  • Lower video resolution or increase font size
You can view the online manual for this monitor by clicking the link below. It may have some troubleshooting information to help with the issue that you are having with this monitor.

You can download the 2001fp monitor files from the Dell ftp site below. Once you get into the monitor folder you can scroll down and double click on the file R68954.EXE.

Don't know what, if anything, you did with it, but with my monitor from Dell, I got a cd with the driver, and guide on it...What happen to your cd that suppose to come with the monitor ?

I got the CD with the monitor, but it only had the manual on it. I couldn't find any drivers on it anywhere. (It's still possible that I just missed it, even though I searched for any .exe or .inf on the whole CD. I was very tired...and frustrated.)

Thanks for the info. I'll go through those steps tonight, along with some other trouble shooting steps of my own.

My plans:
- Install the 2001FP drivers. (Yeah, I realize this doesn't really do much.)
- Try the steps listed from Jesse's response. (Although, I do not WANT to lower video resolution. I want to run at native FP resolution!)
- Try another DVI cable.
- Try the monitor on another PC.
- Try to open a support ticket.

So, how exactly do I submit an issue with technical support about this monitor? It doesn't have a service tag. Everything about support requests a service tag. It's quite frustrating.

Insert the cd into the tray and close it..  When the set up shows on the screen, click on the  (-) sign you see in the upper right hand corner of the monitor.  Now right click on the desktop, click on Settings, than Advanced.  Now in the next window, click on Monitor, than Properties.  This will now show another box that you can click on Driver in the box ontop.  Now click on Update Driver's. Now click on " No, not this time " than click Next.  In the next window click Next again and this will install the driver from that disk you put in.....

But, that's assuming there is a .INF file for the driver on the disc I was given. There was not.

I'm not worried about being able to install the proper driver. The link Jesse provided included the necessary driver. I'll do that when I get home.

I'm afraid we're missing the boat here. I have a monitor that starts flaking out after being on for a few minutes. Garbage lines on the screen... Blacking out... It's not cool. I just bought it, and I want to replace it.

Tried that. This is actually a very recent (less than a week) clean install of Windows XP, with the newest NVIDIA drivers at that time. (72.xx or something?) The machine was working flawlessly with my Dell 21" Trinitron. The Trinitron, however, has seen better days, and is having convergence issues. That's why I bought the 2001FP.

There are newer drivers today, which I intended to install for Battlefield 2, but it seems I'll be spending the better part of my evening troubleshooting the 2001FP, and most likely sitting on hold with Dell.

It might be a video card driver that is corrupted and not the monitor.  Why not uninstall the driver to your video card and than either reinstall it again of download and install a newer driver to see if this works ...

Dim 4400 2.6 Ghz 400 FSB
1 Gb DDR 2100 Memory
Windows XP Home SP-2
20 Gb 7,200 Hard Drive
17 inch 1703 FP LCD

I have the same CD. Only the user docs on the CD, no driver files. No .INF file (except Autorun.inf).

I downloaded the drivers from here, but not sure if they're the latest:
