C3422WE, Echo Cancelling Speakerphone output missing, USB-C

I've been experiencing this issue for awhile now with Windows 10 and it's recently got worse when I purchased a new Dell Latitude 9330 with Windows 11 Pro. Both Latitude 9330 and C3422WE have all of the latest drivers and firmware installed. When I connect the laptop via USB-C to USB-C upstream port, the sound option for Echo Cancelling Speakerphone is not always available as shown in screenshot below (the option for HD Audio Driver for Display Audio always displays but this is worthless for USB-C connection). The ONLY way I can get the Echo Cancelling Speakerphone option to display is by completely unplugging the monitor from the power and then plugging it back in (in some cases I have to do this multiple times). The issue existed with previous laptops on Windows 10 however it wasn't as persistent. Anybody have any ideas as the current solution is driving me crazy!?

Same problem here. Only workaround is turn off a monitor by pressing it's power button and turn on again in few seconds (XPS 13 9310 + C3422WE, all latest drivers and firmware installed).

@emotivci
XPS 13 9310 connected to the C3422WE Monitor via USB Type-C power delivery cable. During the work day I suddenly notice that the sound coming from laptop not from monitor speaker and "Echo Cancelling Speakerphone..." option disappeared from the sound output panel.
This can happen once or twice a day.

@il82 yep...so ridiculous and clearly a firmware update is needed!

@il82 have the same issue too (that just started on Windows 11 though)...it cuts out for a brief moment before then going back to the echo cancelling speakerphone. Think this monitor was rushed through production and there are all sorts of issues that Dell just ignores.

All,

To receive assistance from Dell chat support, they need to first verify the warranty status and ownership. Then you must troubleshoot with them. Click the "Get Help Now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private monitor Service Tag and all of your troubleshooting.

I had this issue for a year and then my built-in camera died so I got the replacement. But the replaced one with the latest firmware also has the similar audio drops. Today I wrote a little program that monitors and logs how often C3422WE disconnects. It can be as often as every hour that disconnects and connects again after few seconds. As if they added code to "auto-restart every now and then" in the recent firmware in order to prevent it from going silent for hours due to unknown reason (as it were previously for me).

Crazy thing is that I could not even use the workaround to turn off the monitor as I have Optiplex 7090 powered by C3422WE and "Dell Power Button Sync" "feature" is forced on me with no way to disable it. I cannot simply turn off my monitor without turning off the PC as well. Does anyone know how to turn (just) the monitor off while it is power synced with PC over USB-C? Or to disable Dell power button sync?

@Svetislav Yep....exactly...no way to power off the monitor without powering off the laptop because of the awful Power Button Sync.  So only way to "power off" monitor is by removing plug from the unit/wall...just so ridiculous and this is not a solution anyway!

@Svetislav any way you could post the log of how often your connection is being dropped? Mine also drops out periodically throughout the day and reconnects quickly as you describe.

This Echo Cancelling Speakerphone output missing issue was escalated. There might be a C3422WE firmware released. All we can do is check the drivers page. For now, all you can do is use the workaround =

* Switch the C3422WE off with the power button
* Unplug every cable from the C3422WE
* Wait 20 seconds
* Plug the applicable cables for your setup back into the C3422WE
* Switch the C3422WE on with the power button
* Reminder, if using PC HDMI out port or PC DP out port, you must also connect the USB-A to USB-A cable or USB-C to USB-C cable to the PC

DPBS (Dell Power Button Sync) is here to stay for OptiPlex, Latitude, Precision, and some XPS. DPBS cannot be turned on or off in the monitor or the PC.

That work around doesn't fully work though because of the awful DPBS which means the only way to turn off just the monitor (without turning off the laptop) is by pulling the power cable out while the monitor is on.  This is the what I have been doing and sometimes it can take 15-20 times before the echo cancelling speakerphone finally appears.  Flat-out embarrassing this is the best Dell can do for a monitor that was deliberately designed to be used with MS Teams! And it's going to take 1+ months to fix it!

New record today, 27 times I had to power cycle (pull the power cable out and put back in) before I got echo canceling speakerphone output to appear.  Looking forward to waiting another month for the firmware upgrade that is meant to fix this (but most likely won't).

Got the new firmware update, doesn't resolve the issue.  In fact, reading the release notes, it was never going to fix this issue and is meant to fix an entirely different issue.  So basically there is no resolution in site and we've made zero progress.  Beyond frustrating!

I've recently installed the latest FW (M2T114) and it looks promising. We'll see how it goes...
Good news: I had issue where mic and Teams LEDs were still staying on after turning the monitor/PC off (power LED was turning off but not the other ones), so I went into the monitor menu to see if I can find anything and for the first time ever stumbled on the option to disable monitor/PC power sync!

So now finally, after more than two years, I can turn off my monitor without turning off the Ultra PC (powered via monitor) at the same time...

Disabling power button sync also seems to solve the issue with LEDs not turning off.

Has anyone seen a resolution to the Echo cancelling speakerphone devices vanishing?  We have a couple hundred P2724DEB monitors doing the exact same thing.  Happens with Dell optiplex micros and laptops.  Echo canceling speaker phone vanishes and the only way to get it back is reboot the monitor, or unplug and replug USB-C
