C3422WE, macOS DDPM stops responding after switching Inputs

Setup:

  • PC #1: 2021 14" MacBook M1 Pro connected via USB-C. macOS 13.1 Ventura
  • PC #2: 2022 13" MacBook Pro M2 connected via HDMI/USB-B - macOS 12.6.1 Monterey
  • macOS DDPM: 1.0.2.0019 installed on both Macs
  • C3422WE Firmware: M2T109

Issue:

When DDPM first starts everything works great, until I use the Input and USB switch shortcuts. I can successfully switch between Inputs/USB Switch once or twice  (With a ~15 - 30 second delay until DDPM becomes active again and allows me to switch back). After 1 or 2 uses DDPM becomes unresponsive on both Macs and the icon in the system menu displays with a magnifying glass on it. Screenshot 2022-12-31 at 10.36.31 AM.png I have to completely exit out of DDPM on the active Mac and as soon as I do that, DDPM on the 2nd Mac shows the DDPM Icon with the Caution/Warning "i" triangle Screenshot 2022-12-31 at 10.41.22 AM.png and the input immediately switches back to that Mac and I get several notifications saying the following:

  • Outdated monitor firmware (It's Not)
  • Connect USB-C or USB-B cables, turn on DDC/CI, or update firmware.
  • Please Connect a Supported Dell Monitor

Once I close DDPM on the 2nd MacBook, I can then restart DDPM, switch to the other Mac, start DDPM there and it will work again for maybe 1 or 2 uses until the cycle repeats.

I can use PIP/PBP mode but the USB switching stops working after a couple uses and I see the same thing as above where I have to close out of DDPM and restart it.

Additionally, if I enable the "Auto-switch USB upstream ports in PBP side-by-side mode" things get even messier, so I am not even attempting to enable that.

At this point it is just easier to remove DDPM from both Macs and use the toggle stick to select inputs. One of the main draws of this monitor was the KVM functionality which in it's current state, for me at least, is unusable.

I understand Dell put's it's primary focus on Windows as it has the larger market share, but if features advertised or promoted to work on Mac simply aren't working, why are these features listed for Mac at all?

I hope everyone has a fantastic New Year!
