cannot display video mode
bought dimension 4100 w/ 17 inch monitor, connected 17 inch monitor to 3100 and no problems, however, connected 4100 to 15 inch monitor and monitor displayed "cannot display video mode"
judging by message postings, seems to be a common problem, but no solutions posted. Anybody have any ideas?????

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
The monitor sounds like it cannot support the resolution that the video card is set to. Try going into safe mode and lowering the resolution or connect the other monitor back,lower the resolution and the connect the other monitor.

Yes, if you have a smaller monitor that only supports certain resolutions and a video card that supports higher resolutions than the monitor can handle then, you will get that message. It is common.
