cannot get clear type clear
I have spent hours reading the questions on this forum regarding clear type. I have gone to the site that is supposed to tweek the clear type. Nothing I do seems to make the clear type lettering on my monitor clear. The lettering on my monitor using the clear type looks like old type writer typing when the ribbon is running out. I can't read the standard type at all so I really have to use clear type. Can someone please explain to me why I can't seem to make it come in clearer? Is this as good as this can get? Thank you.

Did you try the ClearType tuner for your windows XP from this Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/1.htm?fname=%20&fsize=. This link installs an ActiveX control and guide you to set up ClearType font for your display. This also helps you to identify your monitor type if it is RGB striped or BGR striped. I have 1800FP (BGR type which is very rare), I had problems in cleartype font setting. The above link helped me to fix the problem.

Aside from visiting Microsoft's cleartype page - another fundamental question to ask is -- the type/display you are looking at - do you actually have the fonts that is being displayed installed/active? You may want to check/uncheck the antialisis of the fonts in the display properties.
Might help a bit more too to know what monitor you are using, at what resolution/depth and graphics card.
