Can't work in DOS on 2001FP
My 2001FP worked great until today. On booting, right uptil the Windows welcome screen, I get this message:
2: DVI-D
Can not display this mode
This is a huge inconvenience for me. I cannot access the BIOS at startup or enter DOS in fullscreen while in Windows. What could be the problem?

slipgun,
What video card do you have installed in your system and if possible can you provide your service tag or add it to your profile? Are you able to see the DOS or pre-boot information using only the analog D-sub connector?

Sorry for the late reply: I rebooted once and I saw the pre-boot information just fine. I thought the monitor was okay until today, when I rebooted (I leave my system on for extended periods of time) and got the same error message. Tried several times again to no avail. The D-SUB connector works fine, but I would never use this monitor without DVI. The video card I'm using is an eVGA Geforce FX 5900.
I did not buy this monitor as part of a Dell system so I'm not sure about the service tag. On the back of the monitor are the letters "REV A00" - is this the service tag?

a nVidia GeForce FX5900XT.
What happens is that seconds after the computer is switched on, the monitor detects a video signal (orange light turns green), and the display says:
2: DVI
Can not display mode
..until Windows apparently has loaded the video driver and displays the logon screen.
This means that I cannot check startup messages and have to change cables when I want to enter the BIOS.
Is there a solution to this problem?

I also have an Nvidia 5900.
This card works with other monitors. So, it seems to be a Dell problem.
What is the fix?
Why can't Dell answer?

Also I have exact the same problem!
My original graphics card (ATI Radeon 9800 Pro) worked just fine. I never got the "Can not display this mode" message. To get the computer more silent, I switched an older card (Saphire Radeon 9600). Then the problem begun. I'm using the DVI-D cable for both cards.
Sometomes my screen temporarily gets black, also during Windows. Often only for a second. But then I don't get the message. It's just black.
Also if I switch to composite input, and then go back, I get the message. Or if the computer is suspended, and then rewakened. Then I have to turn the monitor off and on a couple of times before the screen returns. During this I don't even touch the computer, so it must be the monitor's fault!
Please Dell! Is there any solution? It can't be the drivers, because the error occurs before windows is loaded. Is my monitor faulty, or is the 2001FP not compatible with all cards??
