most monitors can accept a component video signal thru a DB-15 vga connector with suitable conversion cables, what i need to know is, from someone with experience, that the Dell 2007wfp is in fact one that does.

Actually there is no provision in VGA for accepting component input. There are no pins that accept color difference signals. So no simple cable will do it. You need to buy a converter box of some kind.

Component has Y,Pr,Pb signals.
VGA has R,G,B signals.

These are not even remotely compatible. Component is more like S-Video than RGB of VGA.

So no computer monitor that I am aware of allows component input in the VGA port.

DB15 can't accept both without switching and usually that switching is manual, in one of the menus.

There are a couple of TV's out there that have a DB15 connector that can switch between RGB and Y,Pr,Pb signalling, but no computer monitors that I am aware of.
