Considering a 2407WFP, question about resolution..

I know the native resolution of the 2407WFP (24" UltraSharp Wide-Screen Black Flat Panel) is 1920 x 1200, but my video card, an eVGA GeForce 6200LE, 256MB DDR2 AGPx8, will only do 1600 x 1200 Max Digital, and 2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz Analog.

So is it cool to run this display analog?

Can I run this at 1600 x 1200 digital and hope that it looks decent, or do you have to use the native resolution of the panel for it to be sharp?

I don't want to spend $ on a new AGP video adaptor for this 3-year old computer, and a new computer isn't in the budget for a couple years.

This is a general home machine for web surfing, basic excel and word, photo touchups, etc.  We also occasionally watch movies and TV on this machine via snapstream.  The machine is a Dell PE400 with a 2.4Ghz processor.

Thanks!

I have a similar situation....
One month ago I installed a 2407WFP monitor, but I have a 3-year old 8300 with
the Nvidia GeForce FX 5200. Highest digital resolution I can get is 1600x1200,
which looks sharp, but is not a good resolution for widescreen viewing, IMO.
Highest analog resolution I can get is the max: 1920x1200. With the widescreen,
most of my available resolutions stretch/distort the display, so I have very few
choices that are acceptable to me, without upgrading the video card. I'm
currently viewing VGA 1680x1050.

MDS:  question for you...

Why are you currently using analog 1680x1050 instead of analog 1920x1200?  Is it just a size preference issue, or is it a clarity/sharpness issue?

When you do use analog 1920x1200, is everything sharp and clear?   I'm very interested because this is the approach that I plan to use.

It seems that some of the techies at the powerstrip forums say that the differences between analog and digital aren't as big as everyone would have you believe.  I've got to think that I probably wouldn't even notice since I'm a pretty casual user (not into gaming, or serious photo/video stuff).

Thanks!

To answer your questions:

It's just a size preference issue.....the icons, menus, and fonts are just too small for my liking.
The clarity/sharpness is excellent though......no issues there.

Yes, I thought that 1920x1200 had an excellent display quality; it was just too small for my taste.
In fact, I could not see a marked difference in sharpness/quality between DVI 1600x1200 and
VGA 1920x1200

From my experience so far, I would tend to agree (other than when it relates to my HDTV :-)
I don't think you will notice any significant degradation. With our older graphics cards, we're
just not able to use these monitors to their full potential, but they still present an excellent display
and I'm very happy with mine as is.

After playing around some more and researching resolution info, I would
recommend using your NATIVE resolution, which is 1920x1200 for this monitor.
With older graphics cards, that may only be available via the VGA (analog) connection. In order to enlarge the font size, etc., I used the Display DPI option to set a larger custom size, and now feel that I have the best possible display settings for my preference.
