D1025TM and locked OSD

For those of you who have posted in the past concerning a D1025TM that has "wigged out" and locked the OSD in a "foreign" language with no way to unlock it ... I have had the same problem and searched through this forum for solutions. I finally called Dell this morning and was told the monitor would have to be replaced. So, I guess the only solution to this problem is a new monitor. This one is out of warranty anyway.

Hey I would love for Dell (and me) to be wrong on this. However, according to my Dell documentation for this model monitor you have to use the OSD to lock and unlock the OSD menu. In my situation, the menu itself is scrambled. Option, which is the OSD option used to lock and unlock OSD, is not in its normal place. It is replaced with LANG, which will bring up another OSD which does indeed have the manual degauss icon which is part of the Option menu but still I cannot get any other "thing" to highlight ... there are no other icons, just foreign text, one of the Far East languages. I'll hook it back up and try some more. I know some of the other Dell monitors do have a "hold this button" option to unlock the OSD but the D1025TM 17" CRT (Ultrascan 1000 HS) does not seem to have this.

Thanks for posting, you have encouraged me to try again.

Dell is wrong. There is a button you hold down for a few seconds to unlock it. It's right there (the instructions) on the documentation.

You might want to try pressing the reset button.

Oh I tried the Reset button, and tried and tried and tried ...

Just to keep down on confusion, here is the link to my monitor information ...

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>

Mine is a D1025TM not a D1025HT. When I have time I'll hook it up again and try some more to convince it to unlock.

Thanks again for your posts.

Not so fast ... I just got it reset! What an ordeal. I don't know how to describe the problem to you but I think some others have experienced this as well. The actual OSD menu "icons" were scrambled (i.e. - in the wrong location within the menu) and in some foreign (to me) language. The "Option" menu was in the lower right corner location and labled as LANG. I went through all the possible combinations of up/down, left/right button pushing with a push of the menu button after each one. Finally there was an indicator, a little green line, that I guess was indicating the lock was on/off. Finally I got it unlocked! Then I had to press the Reset button and then bring up the actual LANG menu, which would only display monitor information, and then hold the Reset button while that information window was up and it reset to English.

If others of you are still struggling with this issue with this monitor I wish I could remember more clearly what combination of button presses finally got to where I could unlock the monitor. I was just trying all combinations. If the above is not clear enough just post here and I'll be more thorough.

So, you were not wrong after all ... Dell was. Even though you had the wrong monitor model number just your posting was enough to keep me motivated to solve this issue. Unfortunately this is not the first time I have had to solve a problem without Dell's help. Ususally their support is right on. But, since I provide support here at my company I cannot imagine trying to do it with a worldwide customer base where you can never "see and touch" the problem equipment.

Thanks again for your posts!

Oh Jonsey, I wish you could remember! I have the same problem with my D1025TM. I am locked out of the OSD. I can only highlight the Exit and the Option function. If I click on Option I go to the screen for Manual Degauss, etc., which contains the Lock funtion and it is set to "On". I keep pressing the arrow keys to move it the selection down to the Lock function to change it to "Off", but nothing will get me there. No one seems to understand - the arrow keys don't function.

I have the same monitor at home and have no problems with it - all the OSD funtions work just fine. Mine didn't change the language - it just got it's convergence knocked out of balance.

If you suddenly remember, I'd appreciate a post, otherwise this monitor is toast. (no poetry intended :>)

Thanks

Diane

I know, I know ... by now I should know to take notes as I go along. I was just trying all kinds of key (button) combinations and all the sudden I could see it was responding.

Try this ...
1. Bring up the OSD
2. Go the OPTION menu
3. While the OPTION menu is open, press and hold the RESET button until the screen blinks .. in my case about 3 seconds

See if that frees up the arrow buttons. I don't know that this is the solution but it is worth a try. Let me know, in the mean time I'll keep thinking.

Hi I had this problem thought i was screwed till i found it anyhow here is the button sequence to fix what ever it was went berserk.
1. bring up menu
2. select the only available option
3. press down,up,left,right,right,left,up,down
4. presto your screen went visable again then you can press the reset button to fix the language in the menu.

hope that helps someone someday.

I have had the same problem.
I have gotten the OSD back but it is in a number of different "foreign" languages.
Not sure I can get it back to just english.
Have tried the reset button but it does not change the OSD.

Polaracid, your instructions worked.
Actually, I don't think I needed the final two key strokes (up down), but still, you have helped someone.
Unfortunately, I also still cannot get the monitor to display the OSD in English. When I go the menu option where Language should be, and press the menu button to select it, the OSD disappears, and an icon that looks like a speaker with an X over it (mute?) appears in the lower left corner of the screen for about half a second. I know I am in the right place, as I have many D1025TM monitors here, and I can go to that spot in any of the others.
If anyone knows how to correct this last part of the problem, I would appreciate a pointer or two.

I should have checked ajones's posts a little more closely. The answer to my problem was in one of the posts. If your monitor is set to some other language than English, and the OSD will not let you change it, go to the Language section of the OSD, and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds. The OSD will eventually disappear for a few seconds then come back on in English.
And hopefully by then you will have everything back to normal.
