Dell 1707FP?

I have one. It is fine for gaming. No input lags, very resistant to smearing/ghosting. A generally very responsive monitor.

It is 6bit with dithering but it looks fine. Looks just as good as the 2007fp I had and got rid of.

MacWorld have a rave review about this monitor. I'm seriously considering purchasing it to use with my new MacBook.

I've heard that some of the displays used by Dell are the same used by Apple in their monitors (the 20" FPW, I believe). Elsewhere in these forums I see that which display you get is pure luck, in any case.

For the price, I'm assuming that this is NOT the display made by Phillips that Apple also uses. If not, is the quality still worthwhile given the great price? Anything I should be aware of before purchasing "blindly" online?

Note that this screen is a TN screen, the Apple Cinema displays (ACD) in 20"23",30" are all IPS screens the best going. So this will not be the same quality as an ACD.

And there is apparently some of the dell lottery with these screens as well. While these are all TN screens multiple suppliers are used. With samsung being the best among them.

I have the Samsung version and I like it. But it is a TN screen. It readily shows Color banding and it has poor viewing angles in the vertical direction (but better than PVA screens in the horizontal).

Thanks for your reply and information. In general, the 1707 still seems like a pretty good display, no? I would be using it only for surfing and writing. No serious photo editing; no gaming at all.

Or should I really consider the 2007 FPW?

Overall I am quite happy with it. I have previous experience with the 2405fpw and 2007fp and I wasn't happy with either of those more expensive monitors.

It is very good for gaming/surfing/productivity. I think it would only be a problem with Image editing and even minor image editing would be fine.

It is the same height as the 2007wfp (2007wfp is just wider). So really it is quite a good deal IMO.
