Dell 1907FP

I just ordered UltraSharp 1907FP 2 days ago after reading the specs shown here:

The product status is now in transit for delivery.
But after reading in several forums, there are many complaint that the specs of the 1907FP they received are inferior with lower contrast 500:1 instead of 700:1 claimed by Dell.  I need to confirm if this is true.   Downloading the PDF for 1907FP, I read the specs is indeed 500:1, different from what is shown on the url above.   I need immediate response from Dell which ione is the correct specs for 1907FP.    I will be really disappointed if it was 500:1, because it is too low even when compared with the cheapest 19" I have seen (mostly 700:1).  I'm looking for a quick response as I might have to decide whether I will go on with the order, or I might have to cancel it.

The monitor spec sheet for 1907FP (PDF file) on Dell Monitor Information Center page here shows different spec:

It seems it depends on what panel is used in this model

There are 2 that i know of and someone else said a possible 3 types of panel used
I have had a 1907fp for over 2months now and am quite happy with it.
nice and brite. sharp text. solid colors.

the panel in mine is the LTM190EX-L01
same panel used in some upper end Samsung and BenQ products.

I have seen specs on the LTM as high as 1000:1
put LTM190EX in a google search for specs

the following is the steps to see what panel you have...it was originally for the 1905fp
but it works same for the 1907fp

"To find out which version of the 1905FP you have:

1- Turn off your screen
2- Press simultaneously the 'Menu' and '+' button of the screen.
3- While holding the 2 buttons press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Go to OSD menu (by pressing 'Menu' button) then select the 'Reinit' option (red point at the bottom of menu).
6- Select 'Factory' option.
7- You can see now the panel manufacture"

Yes, further reading in many forums reveals the fact about AUO & Samsung panel in 1907FP.
I don't know which one I will get, but frankly I will not be happy if I get anything below 700:1 contrast ratio.  It might be arguable whether I will see the difference, but the point is I don't like to buy something that is different from the specs claimed by the manufacturer.  Higher spec is a bonus that the customer should be happy about,  but lower spec  ?
It is positive that some 1907FPs are using AUO panel that has contrast ratio of 500:1....lower than the claimed specification.  I just realized after searching for more & more info on the net.  The point is, I will appreciate some honesty in doing business.
This is not the first time I bought a product that has inferior spec than advertised, but then they are generic products made in China, so I have expected the worst even before I bought them.  But from Dell ???   We are talking about one of the most reputable company here.
I bought 2 Dell laptops in the last 5 years, and they had the same specs as promised, and I was glad with Dell.

Well, anyway, let's see what I will get.  If it is really 500:1, then I'd rather sell it.  I don't like looking at something everyday  that will always remind me of a bad experience.
Sorry, I might be fuzzy, but I also have a good point here, don't you think ?

There are three known panels in the 1907FP. The prevailing consensus is that the Samsung panel is the best of the bunch. Samsung, however, has its own problems when it comes to specs: Samsung's spec on the panel lists the color as capable of 16.7 million colors, an 8 bit panel. But this is a TN panel (6 bit) using dithering to obtain, at best, 16.2 million colors through sub-pixel trickery.

Mine came last week, and so far so good. I don't do much color work (or gaming), and so the the monitor seems a good deal for the money. Having said that, the issues with the specs are suspect at best. It compells one to wonder what other specs Dell passes off for products that are complete lies.

Buyer beware.
