Dell 2005fpw LCD brightness control doesn't work
I'm on my second 2005fpw, and both have had the same problem with the brightness control. When I try to use the monitor brightness control to dim the monitor, I can only make a small adjustment. The brightness control doesn't really do anything. At a "0" setting, the monitor is still very bright.
Does anyone else have this problem? Dell Tech Support follows the usual script and says that if the self-test screen appears, then the monitor is working fine and it's my video card. They don't seem to get that the brightness control is on the monitor, not the video card. I've tested this display with 3 other systems and it's the same issue with all.

I can use the setting from my graphic card but it is not the same type of setting
With daylight it is all right and the screen very pleasant to read but not at night where it is too bright.
DELL ? any help ?

the brightness control on the monitor simply doesn't change the brightness noticeably (it is actually changing but only slightly and almost unnoticeable).
their excuse is that the brightness control is not available when connected via DVI-D but that's a lie. the CONTRAST control is not available but the brightness control is. it's just that the brightness control only changes the brightness slightly and almost unnoticeable (aka useless).
i believe it's a design flaw. Dell sent me two replacement 2005FPW's and all three (two replacements and the original) have the exact same problem.
it would be really nice if Dell can recognize the problem and fix the brightness control in the next revision or any future monitor products.
