Dell 2100FP Bright/Contrast Control Panel Opens at Random

Not sure what is going on....just in the last 3 days, the control panel for the 2001Fp Bright/Contrast settings will open at random.  Nothing I do will close the panel and there is nothing I can do for actual controls either.  It is a HUGE annoyance to be doing something and have the panel pop up since it is on top of everything else.  The window also randomly closes.  Tried to close the window to no avail.  Then I tried to open it and do something, but the windo is not controllable.  When I hit the "+" or "-" key on the monitor, then the menu is scrolled through and I have no control .... takes about 10 minutes to figure out what is going on and time it so that I hit the exit menu at the right time.

Huge pain....tried to reset to factory default, although that is what it has always been....

I have never had so much trouble with a monitor in my life.

Have heard nothing from Dell.

The problem is getting worse by the day....as each day passes, the more often the prompt/window appears.

All,

What are the numbers listed on the backs your monitors? I do not see the 2100FP listed here?

All,

Does this occur using both the DVI and the VGA one at a time?

Try unpluging the power cord from your monitor and plug it in again,it worked for me.

Thank you very much for your help guys it seems i stumbled on the way to fix my problem.Last night instead of turning off my monitor at the button[because it is a bit dodgey the button is slightly broken and makes a cruntching noise when pushed]i pulled the power cord out instead, and it has worked, for now anyway.I have put a copy of the dell faults page on my desktop so if i have any trouble again i will be right.
Once again thanks you blokes.

As stated in my original post, this problem only occurs in DVI mode.  I am unable to use VGA mode, as I have 2 nVidia 7800s, which does not have a VGA port, only 2 DVI ports...which means that I have 4 DVI ports to plug in my computer.

FYI... I did plug this monitor into another computer (Alienware) and it also has 7800s.  Same problem, which leads me to believe that the problem is with the monitor and NOT the computer system itself.

In trying to move the OSD and adjust some settings, I have also noticed that the "+" button no longer fucntions.  In moving the OSD, I have successfully moved the display to the extreme left, because I can't move it to the extreme right.  Nothing associated with the "+" key works anymore.

I believe that the problem is that monitor buttons are no longer functioning properly....or are malfunctioning if you want to be accurate.

The apparent answer must be, "Sorry, we are too stupid to figure out how to fix this problem" since there are no posts on what the problem is.

Oh well...I have an extended wArranty on my computer, will just have to tell them to replace the monitor...since they aren't intelligent enough to figure out how to fix this....

We cannot replicate this in the lab. Since the Reset fails to correct the issue, the monitors (if under warranty) should be replaced.

If you have a service tag number associated with your monitor, you may use Chat or Email support to setup the monitor exchange.
If you only have an Order number associated with the monitor, you must call in,
1-800-624-9896. They will need the following information -
Monitor 20 digit PPID number
Name, address, phone, email address
Order number
Issue
Troubleshooting done
