Dell 2407WFP "dirty looking screen"

Ive just moved up from a 19 inch CRT to the 2007WFP but the screen looks like it has a kind of haze over it like its dirty and needs a good wipe. I don't have much experience with flat screens and wondered if this is normal? Its very noticeable on lighter colours like white and hard on the eyes.

slight "moiring" or "gridding" is normal on LCDs.

When did you get this monitor, is it A00, or A02?  Do you have any pictures to share that would show the degree of haze?

I got it yesterday, its an A01. I'm not sure it will show in any pictures plus my camera is not so good. But here goes.

Not sure if it shows up on the pics becuase this is the only monitor I have to use. Its there all the time but very noticeable when you move a window round the desktop, it looks like the screen has not been cleaned in months.

Yikes!  No, that looks pretty bad to me.  I'd definitely be turning it in for a new one.

Whats with the sky is falling attitude? Silly.

It looks like you simply need to mess with the brightness and contrast settings. I believe that contrast will have that effect if too high or too low. Set it to 50 and that usually is optimal with a brighness of 100

Also check any ClearType settings you might have on. That looks very bad.

This is a by-product of the anti-glare coating that the 2007WFP has on it. No amount of replacements is going to help you, believe me.

afaik no Dell desktop monitors have anti-glare coatings. Only things I know with them are the "True-Life" (transreflective coating) laptop screens and the Viewsonic VX2025WM.

Thanks for the help, ive calibrated the monitor i know the "haze" is not going away but i guess its part of LCD screens and if it is i'm not sure i can get used to it.

Sorry its a 2407WFP i had the model wrong in the title, ive edited it.

No, it looks really bad. Mine looks nothing like that, judging by the pics. If you can see a friend's lcd, look at that. My 2407 looks as good as any LCD i've seen (aside from the banding issue, but that's not what we're talking about), and if your friend's lcd looks noticeably less "dirty", then it's time to call dell.

Take another shot of it, and place a nice unscratched CD case next to it.
This with help us make the distinction between a nice shiny surface that we all know(CD Case) and your screen. We need a reference object in order to clearly understand the problem.

Otherwise anything we see on the photos is distorted by the camera itself (noise, focus,...)

100 mm VESA® Mounting, Antiglare with Hard-coating 3H, Includes Height Adjustable Stand

That is from the product page of the monitor, notice "Antiglare with Hard-Coating"

This is what is causing the "Dirty" problem.
