Dell 2408WFP HDMI Issue
I just received a Dell 2408WFP 24" monitor with the latest firmware (the sharpness has increments of 10) but I cannot get the HDMI to work from my computer.
When I plug the HDMI from my computer in the monitor just comes up with "Entering power saving" and indicates there is no signal coming from the computer. Interesting enough when I pull out the HDMI cable it can detect it and puts a message on the screen that there is no HDMI cable connected.
My computer has an ASUS EN9600GT 512MB HDMI video card, this is the card with two DVI ports, it comes with a DVI -> HDMI adapter with you plug in a HDMI cable.
I am using the beta Nvidia 177.92 drivers. I check to see if there were any bios updates for my video card but could not find any.
My computer on my Sony Bravia tv using HDMI works.
My XBOX on my Sony Bravia tv using HDMI works.
My XBOX on my Dell 2408WFP using HDMI work.
It is only my computer on my Dell 2408WFP that does not work.
Audio from my motherboard is connected to the video card via an internal S/PDIF cable, I did disconnect this just in case the audio component was causing a problem with the HDMI signal but it made no difference.
I am really stumped. Any ideas?
Can a rep please advise where to go from here?

what happens when you connect the PC to the 2408 using both?
then, using the DVI to investigate,
does the Nvidia show 2 devices?
does it allow you to adjust sizes, refresh rates, TV mode, etc, for the HDMI connection?
does clone mode have any effect, and does disabling the HDMI then re-enabling have any effect?
fyi, I use both DVI and HDMI, in a similar setup to yours, on ATi 3870 with DVI (direct) and HDMI (using the proprietary ASUS DVI-to-HDMI adapter) to the 2408, both always active, with HDMI as "main" and DVI as "clone". I use the DVI for everyday tasks, and HDMI for gaming.

so the Nvidia is not recognizing the 2408 over HDMI. I wonder if HDMI versions are at play here, meaning the TV and ASUS card may support a higher/lower level (1.1, 1.2, 1.3) versions than the 2408 does. I have also seen references to additional settings in the Nvidia control panel for HDMI devices (see here) which may be involved. this could be a color space or configuration issue particular to the 2408. and I have used Factory Resets on the 2408 in the past, which apparently helped resolve other issues.
on my ASUS/ATi config, I find lag reduced using the port furthest from the PCIe slot running as clone. using HDMI versus DVI improves this again. what I'm getting at, is you could try the 4 different variations on your Nvidia card and see which performs better on your system. the difference for me is very noticeable. lag is still there, but not much, and I no longer notice it.

Hi Mike
When both are connected I can get an image by DVI only, the Nvidia control panel only shows one device (the one connected by DVI).
When I bought my monitor it came with a Belkin DVI -> HDMI cable, unfortunately it was faulty and one of the port plugs was seriously bent, I am hoping that when I get this cable replaced that this might solve my problem. That been said the ASUS DVI->HDMI adapter that ASUS supplied should work (and it does work for my TV), so why doesn't it? Especially since is appears you are also using a version of the ASUS DVI->HDMI adapter.
Out of interest do you notice any appreciable difference between your two cloned displays? Is the lag less using the HDMI connection?

I have an Nvidia 880GT card using a DVI to HDMI adapter. I set the input to HDMI and the monitor works fine. I do notice a small image quality increase.
I had to reformat and do a fresh install of Vista and the monitor was recogonized as a Generic Monitor with the HDMI cable connected. I tried to update the Dell 2408WFP monitor drivers and was advised that the best drivers were already installed.
I then disconnected the HDMI cable and reconnected the DVI cable and the Dell monitor was recognized correctly and the the drivers installed.
I rebooted and when the sysytem came back up, I checked the device Manager and the Dell monitor had changed back to a Generic Monitor.
I notice no difference in picture quality when shown as a Generic Monitor. I concluded the Dell 2408WFP is not compatible with Vista when connected with the HDMI cable.
