I get the same effect on my Dell 2007WFP. I don't know if it has to do with moving from one app to another, but it's like the screen's gamma changes on the fly. My monitor is Adobe Gamme calibrated, so I don't know if some active profile is constantly altering what I see on screen, but I can think of no other program that would be causing that kind of effect.
I don't know what Adobe Gamme calibrated means or what an active profile is for a monitor. I ain't too knowledgable about technical aspects of computer parts. Though if you find a solution to yours then hopefully that'll work for me too.
