Dell Ultrasharp 20.1" LCD question

Hi, I got the 20.1" Ultrasharp LCD and I'm loving it. :) I just want to know if it is ok to leave the LCD on at all times even when I'm not using it, someone told me that lcd bulbs have a lifespan of x hours. Will the LCD last longer if I leave it on all the time or shut it down when not in use? Please advise, cheers.

Shut it down to save the back light on that LCD.  Leave it on to shorten the life span...Simple

Dim 4400 ( June 2002 )
2.6 ghz (upgrade from 1.7 ghz)
768 MB 2100 DDR Memory
Gainward Ti 4200 128 MB Nvidia
XP Home plus SP-2

But isn't turning on and off not good for the LCD as opposed to leave it on all the time?

When you shut down your computer the monitor will go into stanby, the best of both worlds

Dim 4550
P4 2.4G 533
512Mb DDR@333Mhz
Maxtor 30GB 7200rpm
Maxtor 120GB 7200rpm
NVIDIA TI 4200 64MB
SB Live with 5.1
Plextor PX-708A DVD +/- R/RW
HL-DT-ST CD-RW Drive
XP Home

15 inch LCD has been turned off and on for over three years, no problems.  My second LCD, on and off for over 7 months, no problem. Leaving it on takes a toll on the back light.  Just like leaving on your lights in the house.  Only can take so much, than it stops working.

My Dell laptop has been running 24/7 for over 4 years now and the screen lamp is still as bright as day 1. My screen remains on all the time because of a problem with the 'lid closed' sensor which Dell has been unable to repair after 3 attempts... and now its out of extended warranty.
