Drivers not installing

I recently had to replace my hard drive, so reinstalled Windows. I downloaded the drivers for my monitor (Dell E173FP), but then I can't progress with the instructions: To manually install or update the driver, perform the following steps: 1. Click Start-> Control Panel-> and then double-click Display icon. 2. In the Display Properties window, click the Settings tab, and then click Advanced. 3. Click the Monitor tab, and then click Properties -> Driver tab -> Update Driver. 4. When the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box appears, choose “Install from a list or specific location" and then click NEXT. 5. Check the "Include this location in the search" box. 6. Type the path to the location where the driver files were extracted (most likely "C:\Dell\Drivers\R74922") or use the browse button to select the location. 7. Click Next -> Finish to complete the installation. At No. 3, I can't click on Properties as this is greyed out and unable to be clicked, basically. Any help?

I have the same problem!!!

I had ro reinstall xp because my pc would not boot and now the screen resolution is weird, I cannot set the maximum resolution because the system does not recognize the monitor and lists it as "generic".

I try to install the drivers but the pc can't retrieve them neither from internet nor from the installation cd provided.

All,

You must install the PC chipset driver, then the PC video card driver before installing the monitor driver.
