DVI/Widescreen/Native Resolution Problems

In December I purchased a Dell 2007WFP.

Today my new video card arrived - Gigabyte 7600GS - AGP

Despite upgrading to the latest drivers (and then uninstalling them and re-installing again - with virus detection turned off - just to make sure they load properly), I have been unable to get widescreen resolutions.

Everything looks stretched, especially pictures.

If I connect using a VGA cable, I get a larger selection of resolutions to choose from, but the quality isn't quite as good as the DVI.Strangely it also reports that I have a CRT monitor and doesn't seem to recognize the Dell monitor.

With the DVI connector, of the resolutions above 800x600 I get a choice of 5 options (but only the first 3 work):

1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024

1600x900
1680x1050

If I go into the NVidia Control Panel, it reports native resolution as 1680x1050

However, if I click on the "change to native resolution button" the computer hangs.

Or if I choose 1600x900 or 1680x1050 from the resolution list down in the task bar I get a tiny vga box which says : setting mode fail OK

1152x864 is the only resolution that looks half decent.

I really am disappointed with my purchases, visually I don't see a huge amount of difference between my old Sony 19" CRT monitor and G3Ti200. I thought I would at least see a significant difference with the new 7600GS card. But no. And I really feel like crying

I would really appreciate any suggestions you may have on solving the widescreen dvi problem?

The Dell monitor also doesn't look as vibrant as those that I have seen in computer shops - I thought the new video card would dramatically make a difference, but it didn't. The Dell monitor is bright - very glary - I have the brightness turned down to 0 - it seems to continually get brighter. Also if you've got any ideas on how to reduce the white glare on the Dell that would be great as well.

Hi, try this:

Dell 2007WFP Monitor Driver Clean Install

Download the Dell 2007WFP driver
  1. Download the driver here. Click Download Now, to download the file.
  2. When the File Download window appears, click Save this program to disk (Windows XP users, click Save) and click OK. The Save In: window appears.
  3. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
  4. If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file icon (R113372.EXE) appears on your desktop.
Extract the Driver files
  1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled R113372.EXE. The Self-Extractor window appears.
  2. Click OK or Continue. The Self-Extracting Driver Installation window appears and prompts to extract files to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R113372.
  3. Leave all of the default settings and click Unzip or OK. If the directory doesn't exist, you'll be prompted to create one. Click Yes. A Self Extractor window appears and indicates  C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R113372 files were extracted.
  4. Click OK.
Remove old monitor entries from Device Manager
  1. Open Device Manager
  2. In the View menu, select Show hidden devices.
  3. Expand the Monitors section.
  4. Right-click each entry and choose 'Uninstall'.
  5. The Monitors section is refreshed and should show only 'Default Monitor'.
Update the driver
  1. In Device Manager > Monitors, right click on the Default Monitor and select Update Driver.
  2. When the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box appears, choose  “Install from a list or specific location" and then click NEXT.
  3. Check the "Include this location in the search" box.
  4. Type the path to the location where the driver files were extracted (C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R113372) or use the browse button to find the location.
  5. Click Next -> Finish to complete the installation.

gpro,

Great FAQ.

Thank you gpro for going to all the trouble with such excellent instructions.

However, I had previously installed the 2007wfp software and I have no other monitors showing in the monitors section.

I did re-check and clicked on "Show Hidden Devices (in the View menu) and did attempt to update the driver (but it was already uptodate!!!).

Again, your assistance was appreciated. If you've got any further ideas, I'm more than willing to try!!!

Is the monitor listed in Device Manager as Dell 2007WFP, or something else?

What ForceWare version did you install? I am running v91.31 with no problems. I would try to do a clean graphics driver uninstall using Driver Cleaner. It has solved this sort of problem before.

You can find instructions here.
