E153FP flat panel blanks out intermittently

I received my Dimension system 1 month ago with the 15" flat panel monitor.  It periodically blanks out for a few seconds before restoring itself.  Any ideas out there?

My 1704FP monitor does exactly the same thing. I got no help from Dell tech support when I emailed, other than that I should attach a different monitor and see if it still happens. I don't keep extra monitors around for testing purposes! I just got my computer in January and the problem started in March. Did you ever find out what was causing your problem?

nope, not yet!  Just noticed the problem a couple days ago.  I will write Dell support (despite your experiences) and see what they say.

propesrl,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Here are some things to try and resolve the issue with the monitor.

  • Ensure monitor is in proper video mode
  • Ensure video cable connection to computer and to the flat panel is secure
  • Perform monitor reset
  • Perform monitor self-test feature check to determine if the intermittent problem occurs in self-test mode

Thanks Jesse,

A couple of follow up questions:

  • Ensure monitor is in proper video mode:  What is the proper setting?
  • Ensure video cable connection to computer and to the flat panel is secure
  • Perform monitor reset: Is there a reset button on the monitor???  I'm not in front of it right now.
  • Perform monitor self-test feature check to determine if the intermittent problem occurs in self-test mode:  How is this done?  via pre-installed software of from monitor disk supplied during shipment?

Thanks in advance for your attention!

Jesse: It sounds as though I'm having sort of the same problems with my E173FP, Dimension 4700. It does not blank out but looks like it may be losing a color, blinks about half off and back on again. Today I when I came on the screen looked like it had lost the red color for about a minute then started to come back. Is there a procedure I can use to check this out? Thanks.
