e153fp not compatible with dimension 3000?
I bought a Dimension 3000 in 11/2005. I have it using an e153fp monitor. I have had resolution problems. Dell support said it is not compatible. But I am reading posts about graphics driver, etc (wasn't sure about downloading Digitally Signed Drivers).
thanks for any help

Interesting... that seems to be a touch-screen monitor. Is that something, a feature that you specifically need? It seems to support up to a pretty standard 1024x768 resolution at 60 or 75 Hz, but I don't know how much of a curve that touch screen will throw into the mix.
Do you happen to know what kind of video card is in your Dimension 3000 or what kind of drivers you are currently using? You might also want to expand on what 'resolution problems' you have been having.

no I do not have that monitor. I don't have the Touch Monitor. Mine was cheaper, in the range of the current 1505FP.
I have not added anything to the computer. Would I still download that specific site if I don't have the Touch Monitor?
thanks again,
Barbara

I do not believe it is a touch screen monitor. The resolution will only go to low or high, nowhere in between. So a webpage is either to large to fit screen or so small that there is 3 inches to right side of it. I have tried font size, etc and was "troubleshooting" with Dell suport for 2 hours today. I, in error had tried to download a driver for the touch screen monitor, thus it did not work. Now I wonder about the digitally signed monitor (when I tried to check compatibility my dell site froze up about 5 times so I gave up. I also read someone said something about updating video monitor...
The video card and drivers would all be the standard features of the current Dim 3000. I am at home and that system is at work thus can't look at specs.
thanks

Just going by what I found online - is this the monitor that you have?
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=320-4088&c=us&l=en&cs=19&category_id=2999&page=external
The Dimension 3000 seems to come with an 'integrated' video, meaning it is a chipset on the motherboard that uses system ram for video ram. So unless you've added something afterwards, you've got an "Intel Extreme Graphics 2" chipset in there. This post should help you find and install the latest drivers for it:

Hope that helps,

Yes... if there is a newer driver there then you have, download and install it to see if it helps. They would be needed by the Intel chipset regardless of the monitor in use.
Does the computer know what monitor you have? When you check Display Properties, does it mention what you have or say something about 'Generic Plug-and-Play' devices?

Meaning your computer has no idea what kind of monitor you have and is defaulting back to a generic plug-and-play profile. Are you sure what you have is an "E153FP" monitor? The Dimension 3000 seemed to come with an "E193FP" as one of its choices, do you think you might have that? Or did you buy the monitor separately? Should be on a label on the back of the monitor...
You'd need to find the correct monitor drivers so that Windows knows what you've got.

I do not have the monitor that came with the system. It was an E173FP. I have had the E153FP for a year and have been using it with a Dimension L series with Windows 98. (Small work space)
Yes I currently have XP Home edition. I will reconfirm that it is the E153FP tomorrow. I was transferring data on 3 computers and had the new Dimension 3000 connected to an old Compaq monitor with no problem. Also have one year old Dimension 3000 at home with a Dell M780 monitor, no issues.

Download the Intel video drivers from Dell's site that I linked to because you are running XP. We just want to make sure you've got the 'latest and greatest' for the Intel chipset and it seems we need to use the one from Dell. This is all regardless of the monitor being used.
However, before you do that - let's verify exactly what chipset you have. Go to 'My Computer', right-click on it and select 'Properties'. From there, 'Hardware' then 'Device Manager' and you should get a list of all components in your computer. Click the plus sign next to Display Adapters and when it opens up tell me what is listed there. The other drivers may not have installed because we didn't pick the right 'flavor' to download.
And once you confirm the actual monitor in use, then we can see about getting an appropriate monitor driver installed.

downloaded recommended driver successfully. Resolution issue appears to be the same where I can only have it set on high or low. Ready for next step!
thank you

The Digitally Signed Driver doesn't list Dimension 3000 for compatibility...
If download doesn't work how will I know what LCD monitor I can buy (any brand) that will be compatible? Is there anything I can add to system to make them compatible or are drivers the bottom line?
thanks again
