Sorry I'm not helping, but I just dropped by to say that I have exactly the same problem with my 1703FP.
I have had two of them running side-by-side for about 3+ years, and one has just started mis-behaving in the way you describe. I have tried swapping them (digital vs analog) but the malfunctioning one just keeps going blank after a second or two.
I hope someone has an answer. I suspect it's time to get the credit card out.
My 1703FPs blanks out whether connected to digital, or analog. If I turn its power switch off, and then on again with the PC booted up, I see the windows desktop for a second or two, and then blank. I have also connected it to my laptop docking station, and get the same problem. If I power it up standalone, I see the STFC box for a second or two, then blank.
From earlier threads, I am concluding this is a monitor malfunction. If so, is it likely to be an economic repair?
This is a common problem with flat panels. Are you willing to disassemble the display and replace components or boards? I've been getting back into this line of repair so could offer some advice but need to know how far you'll go on this. Most would seem to be happy getting a few bucks and moving onto a new larger display
tr4, many thanks for your offer to help, but I shall simply trash the monitor. Luckily I had a spare anyway, so I shall not have to be hammering the credit card too soon.

Do they blank out when not connected to a PC?

We do not repair them so I do not know. We only replace them while under warranty.
