Error Message - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Dell XPS / Windows XP / Radeon 9800 Pro Graphics Card with TV out and DVI - purchased Dec.2003
I ran a S-Video cable to my 55" Mitsubishi from my Radeon 9800 Pro TV-out card.
Went to Display Properties / Settings Tab and clicked on the #2 monitor (blue square with 2 in it)
Then clicked on and added a check to "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"
Got everything working fine. I had used the S-Video on the front of the 55" Mitsubishi b/c I just wanted
run down the requirements to get this to work before attaching to an S-Video attachment on the back
of the 55" TV permanently.
I went back and un-checked "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" and specified
(blue square with 1 in it) as the primary monitor. Shut down the computer and turned off TV.
Every time I boot-up the Dell XPS now I get a message (blue screen) to the effect that a hardware or software problem has caused the computer not to boot-up to protect my computer.
The primary reason (the only reason) is because of ...........DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Anyone who had the same problem and found a solution please Help.
BTW, I don't plan on using the Dell ever again to do this b/c it too far away from the TV. My re-built Gateway
now has the same Radeon graphics card and sets near the 55" Mits. It will be the primary computer to
surf the internet on the 55" Mits.
Thanks - Happy Holidays

It's actually not the system but the operating system which screwed up. anyhow, here's onse solution you can try.
The recovery console is a set of tools which run from a command prompt. It can be run from a command prompt by going to Start>Run>CMD to open a window. Type help for a list of functions. The recovery console can be accessed directly from the CD boot WinXP CD or the optional 6 floppy disk set.
1. Select R to repair
2. Select the Windows installation to be repaired by entering the number
3. Enter your Admin password or the default, blank and press ENTER
4. Type help at the command prompt for a list of commands you can use
5. For information about a specific command, type the help command name and press ENTER

Check out the articles concerning stop errors in Win Xp at aumha.org. There is a specific reference to your error there.

Thanks for the Response Guys - The problem seems to have cleared up since I'm booting up now and not getting the blue screen.
I do know this was directly connected to activating multiple monitor support. In my case, activating the TV out.
Everything worked fine. Got the big TV to be the second desktop.
It was disconnecting and restoring back to single Monitor setting that got a little strange.
I'd like to find those instructions if anyone has found them.
Thanks - Happy New Year
