Flat Panel vs CRT

I am buying a new Dimension 8300 3.2 GHz / 1GB RAM / and will install my video card, ATI 9800 Pro. My question is the new computer comes with a 17" Flat Panel monitor ( E172FPb) and my old Dell has a 19" P991 CRT monitor and I do a lot of gaming and I need help on deciding which of the two monitors I should use with my 8300? I would like to keep both, but I have to give my daughter the extra one.......I really don't care about loosing a few inches on the screen I just don't want to loose too much picture quality....

That may come down to what type of gaming you do. I have a 2001FP and this LCD shines on racing simulations, but I’ve read all over the place it is barely "acceptable" on first person shooters. I can care less about first person shooters. One of the reasons the 2001FP does well on high FPS games is its 16ms pixel response time. Be careful of buying a LCD that takes more time than that to respond to color gradient. If your daughter just does 2D computer work she should probably get the LCD. Luckily, you will have the opportunity to test both. If you start with the LCD and hate it your daughter will probably swap with you. If she doesn’t remind her of the saying about not biting the hand that feeds you! Good Luck!
