HDMI STB on U2410

I posted this question before but it was deleted.

I want to know if anyone has hooked their set top box to a monitor and if it worked fine. I have a U2410 and was thinking about getting a STB and connecting it via HDMI, I just don't know if the monitor's slow response time will affect the image.

One person responded simply stating "it wont work without a computer with a tv tuner. A monitor is a display--not a tv."

I completely disagree with that statement and think it was made being fairly baseless. Why exactly will this not work? Have you even tried this? I feel it would work, just not as well because the monitor's response time or refresh rate.

I have installed TVs before in which I connected the STB to the TV via HDMI. They worked fine.

Could someone please explain in more detail why this would be an issue? Someone with experience doing this preferably,

Thanks,

Derick

What is the big deal??????

I do not have a STB on hand I can test this with and I do not want to go through the trouble getting one if some problem with HDCP or the response time will prevent this from working.

COMPLETELY?  Give me a break.

A monitor is a display. Without a tuner it is useless. Do you understand????

That's because a TV has a TUNER>

If the STBdoesn't have a tuner, then you can't just connect it up to a monitor. It is that simple.

(Since you are saying STB, I'm making the grand leap of assuming that it is from the cable/satellite provider, which means that it will connect to the service - since that's the whole point of STBs.  If that is the case, obviously, it will have a tuner of some sort.)

The biggest problem I see with this is the fact that you have no audio.

The monitor does not have any speakers (unless you get the bar, and even then, it is 2.0 stereo), and since it does not have any optical or coax out, you cannot redirect the audio to another device.

Are you going to run the STB through a receiver before plugging it into the U2410?

Maybe all the set top boxes I have experienced are different than the ones the first replier has. The ones my cable provider provides DO have a tuner built into them. I even made it clear that I have installed a STB to a TV via HDMI, which would completely bypass the tuner on the TV.

In my original post I had mentioned that I will get audio by attaching some external speakers of some sort to the monitor through the 3.5mm output. I am really not all that interested in having amazing sound since all I will be using it for is watching TV. And if I do decide to step up the sound, most STB have separate audio outputs also.

Oh, so you are arguing about a nonexistant STB of unknown model.

Okay ...
