dell monitors are covered with 3 years of warranty so if you still under the 3 years warranty call dell tech explain them that you already tried what they told you the noise still there is annoying and you can't continue using the computer like that because you don't know when is gonna blow.

I think you need to call them within 21 days of receiving the monitor to get a NEW replacement monitor, or they will send you a REFURBISHED one as a replacement. They say it is in their fine print somewhere. How old is the monitor?

Thanks for your help! The monitor is five months old. It also occasionally dims and flickers. Upping the refresh rate has helped...but it still dims and flickers and occasionally hums. Any ideas?

Best bet is to try to get a replacement monitor from Dell, or live with it. I had one (a 2001fp) that had a high pitch and they replaced it. Actually I had the original shipped monitor that had a visual defect on screen, called up after about a month and was told about the 21 day policy. I asked to talk to a supervisor, explained to him that after a month and thousands of dollars spent, I was not pleased to be getting a refurbished unit in return. He understood this but said it was their policy...however, if the refurb was in any way not working properly he would then send me a NEW one. Well the refurb had a few bed pixels and the annoying high pitch (possibly the flyback transformer), called the supervisor up directly and he sent a New one in return. Thay sent somebody to pick up the old ones and always covered all shipping charges. Dell also sent them out next day delivery, which was kind of nice. It would be worth calling Dell up and trying to get this resolved. If you do not like the answers the rep is giving you, ask for somebody higher up the food chain or call back and get a different rep. Good luck.
