Interesting 2001FP/ATI Radeon XT Issue

Question

Have a new XPS Gen 2 system with the ATI 256 meg 9800 XT video card and 2001FP monitor connected via DVI interface.  Every once in  while, but only intermittently, when rebooting the POST screens display normally, the WinXP startup screen appears, the screen goes dark as usual , but then the mousepointer on the black background that usually appears goes missing and desktop remains blank.  Powering off the monitor briefly and turning it back on and the desktop shows up as normal.  Any ideas what's going on?  Is this related to the 'wakeup from sleep' issue noted in several threads here?  (Never had that problem - don't have the computer set to sleep at all but the monitor is set to power down after 30 min in the power settings.)

Thanks - I checked the driver and sure enough the check boxes had been turned off.  Can't seem to find what they actually DO.  Sure wish system documentation included a reference as to exactly what EVERY setting does and what the cosnequences of each alternative might be!

Hard to say.  The behavior only occured occasionally, not with each reboot.  It hasn't happened since I set the checkboxes on but whether it's been fixed or just the luck of the draw is too soon to say.

It sounds identical to what my ATI DVI to LCD combo used to do. Once those boxes were checked everything was fine. I can uncheck those boxes and the problems all return. So, I know it has something to do with those boxes. However, I don't know exactly what they do either. In testing ATI obviously found something, or the boxes wouldn't be there to begin with.
