While there is no planned A03 or further revisions right now, look at the history of the prior Dell LCD monitors - especially the 2405FPW. The 2405FPW had no/very few issues upon its release compared to the 2407WFP yet the 2405FPW had revision A05 within its first 12 months.
Sure they do A03... it's comming next, look the case of 2405 it's in A05 Revision and hasn't haf of the problems, i think we are gonna see 2407 with A03,04,05...09 quickly. This is the same panel (Samsung) used in other monitors and the problem doesn't exist, so i conclude that's a DELL problem, and the worst, passed 5 months of the product lauch still in the same point. Well... no comments ;)
As it seems that the official word as of now is that there is no A03 planned, what then?
I've had my monitor for a week, and it has the usual problems. Do I call Dell and have them ship me another A02 and hope that it's fixed? By the general consensus in the forums, that probably won't be a satisfactory experience.
*Let's Pretend!*
So then I ring them up and say that I really believe in your product, and that if your are unable to restore X% of the functionality that I was promised when I purchased it, could I please have an X% refund?
So then Dell says that a fix in the works, and a fully functional monitor surfaces, revision A0? and of course by now its November, should I as a customer still feel entitled to a partial refund because I had limited use of my product for all these months?
I always have the option to return the monitor. No one is forcing me to use it, but what really scares me is what happens if I have a problem with my 2405? Do I get it exchanged under warranty and voila, a 2407 replacement appears! Then what? How is Dell Technical Support going to explain to me that my replacement monitor for my 2405 (Monitor of the Year Award) suddendly has banding and problems with the component inputs? Are they going to offer to refund my purchase of 15 months prior?
Bottom line is that Dell needs to address these concerns in a quickly and timely manner. They need to listen to Chris, give him a raise and make us loyal customers again!
Thanks for all the work you've done so far Chris, but please, it seems that our current concerns are falling on deaf ears.
Hi, i don't think they change a 2405 => 2407, it has no sense, just in case you might ask them if that situation one day occurs (hope not). Normally the product is changed by the an equal one, or maybe repaired, but in that field i don´t know how Dell works with RMA products.
I've had my 2407WFP A02 for a week now.
What are my options for getting a working monitor?
1. I get a refund and wait to see what Dell is going to do, read reviews/forums, then buy a new WFP2407 A0x when all the issues are fixed. (But I might not get the same promotional deal that I just took advantage of!)
2. I keep it, and wait for a new revision. But then, what is the EXACT "extended" return policy? Can I keep the monitor for many months and then get a working A0x from Dell?
3. I get a refund and buy from another brand?
4. I keep it, stop complaining and bite the bullet.
I gave up and got a refund. Weird thing is I could by the same monitor tomorrow and save $200 aus of the purchase price I paid in May. I am going to wait 2-3 months for a better revision.
Believe me, they could possibly replace your 2405 with a 2407. I just purchased my XPS system a couple of weeks ago and had ordered the 2405 with it (at that time, the 2407 could only be ordered on the XPS 700 and not the 2405). That was fine with me reading about all the problems with the 2407. I received my system last week and it came with a 2407, although even the shipping invoice that came on the box listed a 2405. I called and talked to customer service and told them they sent me the wrong monitor and they told me that they were no longer shipping the 2405 with the XPS 600 and that Dell can subsitute a newer, updated model and that I couldn't exchange it for a 2405.
I am one of the lucky ones that got a "good" 2407 without a banding problem (as far as my old eyes can tell, even looking at the gradient test patterns), but I still really wanted the 2405 just because I liked the looks (i.e., the stand) much better. Anyway, unless Dell has a stock of 2405s just for replacements, my guess is that you would get a 2407 if you needed a replacement.
It seems that the right thing to do would be to return the monitor. I would be more than willing to wait, at it seems that others are as well. But as a community, we need a statement of some sort from Dell indicating what will be done, and within what time frame. Otherwise yes, it will end up being a return.
I've participated in group buys in other forums before, but this is the first that I've ever seen anything bordering on a group return. Perhaps we need to post not just to this forum, but to someplace like Digg.com. If enought of us dig the story, we could get it on the front page, perhaps on diggnation.
I can just see the headline.
"Dell Monitor customers plan to return their collective monitors all within a single day! Failing to acknowledge certain issues regarding a specific range of monitor. . ."
I'm sure Kevin and Alex would have a great time with that one ;)
Well, If Dell announces a A0x, and we can keep the A02 until then (let's say a couple of month). I will be willing to wait.
If their confirm that they are not going to do release a new revision, I'll then feel obligated to return it.
If Dell decides not to answer us, I will definitely consider your DIGG idea.
That said, at this stage I do not feel that Dell deserves such bad publicity.
Let's give them some time before taking any action.
They already extended their return policy, which is a proper/obvious thing to do.
Let's see what their next step is.
Ok then, but you bought a new product, it's normal to sell new 2407 monitor instead 2405... Other think is a RMA exchange, you don't have a defective product and they change it by other, just if u don't oppose cause you have the right to claim it. It's not a legal action, you bought "that" product not other...
( I'm sure Kevin and Alex would have a great time with that one

5. I don't follow option 4. ;)
Really, what should I do?
ChrisM, could you please answer Option 2.
Thanks in advance.

Are you sure you don't see any banding?

Just other thing 'jday', i don't think your A02 "good" monitor doesn't have problems, it there's not such of them ;)
In that case the problem was solved, they could copy the firmware revision from yours.
PS: I believe you can't see the banding, but it might be there... Have you already seen the different lightning on both edges left/right sides?
