LCD Display - DVI Problem
Has anyone been able to resolve the problem where LCD displays using the DVI input go immediately into the "power save" mode resulting in a black screen? Dell sent me a new monitor, but this did not resolve the problem.
Also, does the USB cable need to be connected to the display for any reason other than providing a connection for the extra USB ports on the display?
Thanks, still...

As for your 1st questions, go to this thread http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=32293
As for your 2nd question, I believe that it is only used to power the 4 USB ports on the monitor.

Dear ortleeb:
Thanks for the heads up, but unfortunately I don't think this will help me.
I have the Dell 1703 Ultrascan display with the Nvidia 128MB DDR GeForce FX 5200 Video Card.
I have reflashed the EDID, upgraded the driver, and tried a new monitor. Nothing appears to work.
I feel like I bought a new jeep and can't get it into 4WD to go off-road.
Sigh,

PS: It is interesting to "Google" - Dell Customer Support - and see all the web sites where people have reported how unhappy they are with Dell technical support.

I sent an email to Dell Tech Support describing my problem (which is the same as yours) and told them I have an ATi 9800. This is the response I got:
If I understand the issue correctly, you are having issues with
your UltraSharp 2001FP monitor as it goes into stand by mode
on startup and stays there.
Dell Flat Panel Displays, when attached to certain NVidia Graphics
Adapters over a DVI Connection (white cable) may fail to display
an image or report that the Flat Panel is in "DVI PowerSave Mode."
This issue can happen suddenly after operating normally, or
may fail to operate properly from the first day they are setup.
The Flat Panel will continue to operate normally using the standard
analog (blue) connection on the graphics card.
Reconfigure the monitor manually by pressing the Video Input
Select (VIS) button on the Display to select appropriate type
of cable attached.
Standard Troubleshooting for this issue is still in effect for
determining what is causing the issue:
1) Ensure that the cabling is secure at both ends
2) Check to make sure the Flat Panel is set to receive a DVI
Signal (check the Flat Panels documentation for instructions)
3) Verify that you are connected to the correct port
4) Remove any extension cables, unnecessary dongles, or third
party devices between the Graphics Adapter and the Flat Panel
5) Verify the Flat Panels operation by running the Flat Panel
Self Test
6) Update the Graphics Adapter to the latest revision available
at Support.Dell.Com
Thank you again for choosing Dell.
The response is not helpful and seems "canned" (they must be getting alot of these issues) and they apparently forgot the part about me having an ATi card but I thought you'd be interested.

See my post(s) in the thread below for a possible solution to this and other DVI problems --
"2001FP comes with a 24 pin DVI-D cable... or does it?"
