M991 lines on top

Everything was ok yesterday when I logged off but today when I started my system my M991 has lines a quarter down from the top horizontally.  And the website top, you can hardly see the " -, restore, X" button.  What could that be?  My dell monitor and system is only about 2 years old.  Help (in laymen's terms I hope)  :(  !!

Try running a monitor self test (shut down the computer and unplug the monitor cable at the back of the CPU, switch on the system again & check of the problem persists, you'll see a red, green and blue horizontal box ). Check for bent or broken pins on the monitor cable. Upgrade your video driver through the downloads section in this site.

Ok, shut it down, unplugged from back....turned back on...same thing....went to download a driver, did that, then went to install it and it told me that the best driver is already being used....well, kinda figured that since this monitor is only about 2 years old.....but now, does that mean my monitor is shot down the drain after this short time ????  Never did anything to it besides turn it off and turn it on..no funky business in control panel or anything
