Monitor 2000FP went blank after Pixel comes up

All of a sudden my 2000FP went blank. The lights are all on, but when I boot up it shows the DELL Pixel words and then blanks out and I get nothing.  How can I check this out if I cannot see anything?  Windows XP SP2. The computer is working I can hear it.  Is it the board or the actual monitor?
Demension 8200. I removed the plug and then replugged it, but nothing. I cannot turn it off and on and all the lights appear.  Could it be a short or bad circuit?  Any ideas how I can find out which to replace card or monitor?  I do not have another monitor to test it with.

I only have my notebook inspiron 8600 that I am using right now.

BronxCats,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try the self-test feature below to see if anything comes up on the screen.

Display Specific Troubleshooting

Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)

Your display provides a self-test feature that allows you to check whether your display is functioning properly. If your display and computer are properly connected but the display screen remains dark, run the display self-test by performing the following steps:

  1. Turn off both your computer and the display.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the display.
If the display is functioning properly, you will see the STFC pattern.

  1. While in self-test mode, the power management indicator remains green and the STFC pattern scroll through the screen.
  2. Turn off your display and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the display.

If your display screen still remains dark after you use the previous procedure, check your video controller and computer system; your display is functioning properly.

I tried what you said and the screen stayed black. You said to check the video controller next. How do I check this?

Desperate. Need my emails and I cannot see anything.

I did not last night. I still see the DELL Logo/dell.com/pixelworks for about 1 second then screen goes blank. what number do I call to get tech support for free? I think I am still under warranty and think I need an new monitor since it won't work on its own either.

Thank you. I did call. I was under warranty. In fact, I contacted them on Friday and received the new monitor this morning. Nice  to be under a warranty. I even received a better monitor. I went from a 2000FP to a 2001FP.
