Monitor display - shrunk in
Hi. Since I got my tower back (repair person took out my video card & put hers in, then put mine back in to hook up to my monitor) my monitor is shrunk in & kind of jumpy. I'll give you as much info as I can to help you in trying to help me. Monitor size, not sure of. Doc. says 17'' but it's not that big. From outside to outside I measure 16 1/2''. Monitor: Dell D1028L on STB Velocity 128 3D AGP (Nvidia Riva 128). Current settings are Colors: 16 bit, Screen area: 800 by 600 pixels, under adapter tab the refresh rate is set on adapter default. My computer is Dell Dimension XPS D233. OS is Windows 95w/ upgrade 98. I'm not sure if there's something wrong w/ the video card, or my settings or if the monitor buttons might help fix the problem.
Please help. I've been trying to find the problem for a long time & I'm afraid that it might ruin the monitor. Thank you so much, in advance. Geraldine

Start here: find your system/card and go from there. Good luck. I think a straight forward reinstall should suffice. If it doesn't take, then yes you could use the driver cleaner, but don't worry about that yet. If you have your original Dell CD's your PC is as delivered, the video driver will be on it.

Thanks for info. I found default video card settings for my system. I changed them & now it's fine! I'm glad I didn't have to install drivers, I don't have utility disc.
I can't thank you enough for your help!! Geraldine

Hi. I'm not sure what your problem was or how long the monitor had been like that. I can tell you what I did however, it may not help you. If you're able to, click on the link that Tom sent me just above, for the video FAQ. Click on #2 (restore the default video card settings). Choose your OS and follow the instructions. There were a few settings I didn't change like the screen saver and the scheme. I also documented every setting before I changed it. I did notice that for the screen area I tried to change it but after the reboot, it went back to what it was. It didn't matter though because it brought the screen back out to normal. I did 2 system shut downs to make sure it would stay and has been fine since. Please let me know if it works for you.
Best regards, Geraldine

Thanks Geraldine, Ive got my monitor fixed, it was just a matter of adjusting the controls on the front of it until picture covered the screen.
Thanks again, John

Hi John, so sorry to get back at a late time. I was wondering if you could tell me what settings are the monitor supposed to be set at, using the buttons on the monitor? Thanks, Ger.

Geraldine, use the 4 buttons to bring up screen, and move to which choice you want, move to horizontal size, and use 2 inside buttons,
( - and +) to adjust window to monitor size, do the same for
vertical size, you can actually watch it move, or adjust, if you hold
- or + down. If you have any trouble, let me know, I'll try be more specific.

Thanks for advice. The monitor is still ok. Just in case it happened again, I wanted to know how to adjust using the buttons. Thanks for your time.
