Monitor Driver - Problem in dowloading
I just bought a new Dell Monitor. The Model no. is SE178WFPc. Some how I feel, the picture clarity is not very clear, so I though why not download drivers of this model from dell website support.
I did download drivers with file name as R159904. I followed all the instructions as mentioned, except the last part of the intruction, which was mentioned as :
Follow the on-screen installation instructions in the window.
HTML Pop-Up With Install Now Button
1.The Dell Software Installation Documentation window appears.
2.Click the Install Now button. A File Download window appears.
3.Click Run this program from its current location and click OK.
The Security Warning window appears.
4.Click Yes. The InstallShield Wizard window appears.
5.Follow the on-screen instructions.
The above part of instructions were not prompted to my PC. PLease help me, whether the drivers got installed completely to my PC or not. If not , please let me know. Please also suggest what would be the best screen resolution to be set...Iam using Windows XP.
Thanks,
Ilyas

The monitor driver adds the monitor's display capabilities to the registry and copies the ICM profile to your system folder. To check whether it worked, go to Device Manager and expand the Monitors section. If you see your monitor listed by name (ie. Dell SE178WFP) then the installation probably worked. To double check look for the SE178WFP.icm file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color.
If the driver didn't install, and you have more than one entry under Monitors, right-click each entry and choose 'Uninstall'. The Monitors section is refreshed and should show only 'Default Monitor'.
To install the driver:
1. Right click on the 'Default Monitor' and select Update Driver.
2. When the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box appears, choose “Install from a list or specific location" and then click NEXT.
3. Check the "Include this location in the search" box.
4. Type the path to the location where the driver files were extracted (C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R159904) or use the browse button to find the location.
5. Click Next- Finish to complete the installation.
If you can't find the location of the extracted files serach your computer for 'R159904'.
Installing the monitor driver should not make any difference to the picture quality though.
For optimum quality, use the monitor's native resolution (1440x900). To further optimize picture quality try Auto Adjusment and adjusting Pixel Clock and Phase in the OSD.
To improve text clarity use ClearType.
Hope that helps.
