Monitor Driver

I am having some problems with blurry text. So I thought that one solution might be installing a Dell driver for the monitor since the one installed is a generic Windows one. I installed one that was for a Dell 1704FPT monitor, which was the closest thing to what's listed on my order sheet. My order sheets lists a Dell 1704FPTT. The blurriness is still there ,but now in the Display Properties it lists my monitor as Dell 1704FPT(analog). My monitor is supposed to be digital. Did I download and install the wrong driver?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris Higgins,

What are your resolution and refresh rate settings?

September 1st, 2005 15:00

Chris,

1024 x 768
75Mhz

Is that driver I installed ok to leave in? Or should I roll it back?
Thanks,
Chris

Is the blurry text better or worse?

Chris

It's much worse. Everything seems a little blurry using "ClearType". Using "standard" the blurriness is intermittent, but mainly noticeable on text intensive things such as message boards, Word documents, .pdf documents and so on. As an example, when reading through topics here, random lines on posts are blurry while others are not. In Word, it's the same thing. Scrolling the page or document doesn't help either.

Thanks,
Chris

Anything else to try?

And if anybody knows the answer to my original question in the first post, that would be great.

Thanks.

Oh well. Somehow this got stuck at the top of the list. Anyone know how to remove it? It happened Again! How do you bump a message up to the first page? I give up.

Disregard my babblings in this post! I still have to figure out how to use the board. :\

I think you need to set resolution at 1280x1024 with that monitor.

Thanks for replying. Everything is so small at that resolution that it's hard to read.

I assume that I am being left to handle this on my own. 7 days without a Dell response. :(

I am sorry and no offense meant but I can't understand the people on telephone support. So I'll continue to hope that a Dell rep can help me here.

You will never get a clear picture with an lcd if you don't have it set at the recommended resolution . lcd's are not like crt's.  You can enlarge your fonts, but if you want a clear picture you need to use the 1280 x 1024 resolution. If you can't stand the small icons and it isn't too late maybe you can exchange for a 15" lcd which uses 768 x 1024.

Can anybody please answer my original question in my first post about what monitor driver to use?

Thanks.

Monitors don't need drivers.

September 14th, 2005 17:00

If that were completely true then why are they available for download from Dell's website?

Chris, a digital monitor will display in the properties as (Analog) if you've got it hooked up with a VGA cable instead of DVI... is that the case?

September 21st, 2005 10:00

Yes. I have the VGA cable. Should I use the other one?

Thanks.
