Monitor in Power Save Mode HELP !
I have a Dimension 4100. Been using it for about 2 years. I have not had a problem with the power save mode until now. I shut down the CPU but left the monitor on. The next day I started the CPU and see the Monitor in Power Save Mode message on the screen. The keyboard and mouse will not activate the screen. I have turned off the monitor & cpu. I have unplugged them. I have used every key on the keyboard nicely. I have used every key not so nicely. I have turned the system off and on probably 50 times in the last 2 days. Any suggestions? I assume that once I can acutally use the PC I'll change the power save mode options. But until I can actually see something on the screen ! ! !
Thanks

MalibuSkier,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Unplug the monitor from the back of the video card and then plug it back in. You can then first turn on the cpu and then turn the monitor on to see if that will work for you.

MalibuSkier,
Turn everything off and unplug the system. You then can remove and then reseat the video card in the system. Once you have done that and plugged everything back up turn the system on first and then the monitor. Let me know if that works.

Jesse, I did what you suggested. I removed and replaced the video card. No change.
I removed the RAM and replaced, no change.
I removed RAM and restarted. Replaced RAM and restarted. No change.
I removed hard drive, restarted, replaced hard drive, no change.
On start up I get a series of 3 beeps and a pause then 2 more beeps. Any significance?
Thanks

MalibuSkier,
The beeps could very well mean that the memory is not seated correctly. Reseat it and then turn it on. What are the led lights on the back of the cpu showing. They should be A,B,C,D and all lit up green when the system is running correctly. Let me know.

MalibuSkier,
The beep codes that you are describing are not showing up with the troubleshooting information that I have in my database. Check out the link below to view the information.

Jesse,
The beeps have been consistent from the first signs of the problem. The pattern of the beeps is also consistent. 1 beep, slight pause,2 beeps, long pause, 2 beeps.
All LED's are green.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Jesse, thanks for the link to the trouble shooting info. After reading through some of the possible problems I pursued the Maintenance Mode starup by changing the jumper to change the BIOS. No luck here either.
The unit somehow is locked in to the power save mode, hibernation, ??
Any other suggestions?

MalibuSkier,
No, its not that easy. It is not partitioned with the other harddrive. Email support@dell.com and correspond with a tech to determine just exactly what the problem is and have them replace any parts if needed.
